Over the weekend, I started to notice spin issues where I could not hold greens in TGC. I also had a lob wedge shot go over my NetReturn and hit the ceiling. That has never happened before in probably thousands of wedge shots.
After I damaged my drywall on saturday, I built a frame to set on top of my net to collect high shots. Today I was testing it, and noticed that all my wedges (52/56/60) were flying considerably higher than ever before. Normally my 60 degree hits within 1 foot of the top of the net. Today all 3 wedges were getting very close to the top, or even going over the NetReturn into my PVC frame.
I thought I must have made some slight swing change that was causing this, could not figure it out.
Later tonight I was messing around with the Skytrak range and found that I was getting only 4k-5k spin with my wedges (down from a normal 9k- 9.5k).
The last time I played outside was December. I have not cleaned my clubs since then, as I have only been hitting inside.
I cleaned out the grooves of my wedges, and all my lost spin returned, and my shots were all 6 inches to 1 foot lower in trajectory. I have black Cleveland wedges, and although they didnt look dirty, they had been collecting ball covers for the last 2 months. Scrubbing them out with a wire brush got all kinds of black gunk out. I could not believe how much difference in spin and launch angle a little cleaning made.
