Win10 PC unable to "look for device", but Win10 laptop connects w identical settings

    Hi,

I just got my skytrak today and am having trouble connecting to my main PC that runs a BenQ 1080p projector. I just built a new machine in preparation for running TGC (Windows 64 bit PRO full version, i5 OC to 4.2 GHz, 16 GB DDR4 PC3000C15, 256G Samsung 950 pro m.2, Nvidia GTX 970). I installed version 2.2 of the PC app, but after logging in the software displays the message "not connected" and will not attempt to "look for device". The PC can "see" the Skytrak via USB (listed as RAPSODO Personal Launch Monitor in the USB device tray) and WiFi (listed as SKYTRAK...) , but the software will not look to connect. It just stays as "not connected". I downloaded the app on my laptop which is running windows 10 64 bit HOME, but otherwise seemingly the same privacy settings as the main PC. Version 2.2 of the PC app on the laptop immediately "looks for device" and easily connects via USB.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot the main PC connection? I looked for a way to reach Skytrak support, but it seems live chat is the only way to get hold of someone... Thanks.

Update: Tried online chat, they could not help and they referred me to a third party call in number with limited weekday hours, called the next day I could, got into queue, got hold of someone and described the issue above and was hung up on! Called back, got into queue, got someone else who tried to be helpful, but they could not solve the problem, they said they would take it to Skytrak for review, they emailed back two days later from a "no reply" address with the same suggestions that we tried on the phone, nothing new or different, I have four swings at this (online chat, first phone call, second phone call, offline review supposedly with skytrak) and am back to where I started. Does anyone know how I may contact Skytrak directly?

    Thanks.

I'm guessing you've been told these things, but here are various steps suggested in other threads for various ailments: uninstall and reinstall the software, reset the Skytrak unit, try a different usb port on your pc, try a different usb cable, try a wired Internet connection rather than wifi, try a sledge hammer, beg SkyTrak_Seth to help. SkyTrak_Seth has been known to pm folks in distress from time to time, particularly if they have tried tech support first. Sorry I can't provide direct contact info.

Thanks Chughes. Yes, I tried everything including the sledge! I called the tech support line back today and the folks kindly referred me to the software development team. They are looking into it now. They do seem to be trying to help which is much appreciated. I am hoping I just have a security or access setting that is confounding (although settings appear identical between the laptop and desktop). In the meantime, is anyone able to run the software with Win 10 PROFESSIONAL?

BTW: In limited trials with the laptop, my skytrak works well, distances seem to be spot on with GPS readings I get on the course.

Glad to hear ST is working on it for you and that the unit is accurate with the laptop. Some bugginess aside, it really is an amazing product at the price point. Good luck sorting out the PC and enjoy!

So it will not attempt to connect whether you use direct Wi-Fi or USB? I have not heard of that, but wonder if possibly there is some type of security or Antivirus on that computer that is not on the other. The big thing to know is when you launch the software, does the Rapsodo splash screen come up? It may also be missing the Visual Studio Package.

Just bought a brand new SkyTrak. I am having the same issue, and I do not see Rapsodo splash screen on my PC. What am I missing? I am running Windows 10 pro x64. iOS works fine, minus the distance issue.

SkyTrak_Seth thanks for the tip regarding downloading / installing Visual Studio for Windows 10. I did not see the Rapsodo splash screen on the PC beforehand, but now see it after installation of Virtual Studio. The skytrak software now "looks for device" and is able to connect to the skytrak unit. The connectivity issue has been resolved! I enjoyed my first range session with the projector and impact screen today - it was fantastic. Yardages continue to be spot on (3 wood through short chips, not hitting the driver well so I can't comment about that yet) and only a few shots did not register. Now I am ready to sign up for TGC!

For folks who build a PC and install their own OEM version of Windows 10 be sure to also install Visual Studio (just google it and download the free "community" version from microsoft) so the skytrak app can connect properly to your skytrak.

          Happy golfing.

            Great to hear!!

Everyone, I will release v2.3 soon which will include this Visual Studio installer. I can't believe some Windows 10 computers don't have this...but glad that it fixed the problem.

If you would rather not wait and just download it from Microsoft, here is the link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/down...s.aspx?id=5555
