Skytrak stable for TGC and PG? Upgrade to GC2?

I'm in the process of putting together my sim garage. I currently have a skytrak but I'm worried about buying TGC and PG and having connection issues with my skytrak.

My skytrak is pretty stable with the skytrak app on my iPad but about every 25 balls it disconnects. I usually just have to wait for 20-30 seconds and it reconnects by itself.

I'm thinking of selling my skytrak and buying a GC2. I would hate to spend $1000 + $250 for software and then have a bad experience with the skytrak connecting.

I'm trying to decide if these advantages are worth the cost of the GC2 (am I missing any?)

- no delay after hit
- easier to use on the range (I don't even bother taking my skytrak)
- option to add the HMT system in the future
- GC2 case looks like more support. I have a 9 year old and 7 year old and I might need the extra protection
- more stable with TGC and PG (is this true?)
- option to add FSX software if I want to add some cameras for swing analysis

Any downsides (besides cost) of the GC2?

I think you basically covered the situation. Yes the GC2 is "better", but is it $4k better....thats a tough call.

For me, I view it as skytrak is good enough to not be too annoying to use, and its making me a better golfer in real-life. I dont think GC2 will help improve my real-life scores any more than Skytrak, so I would not consider GC2 unless the GC3 comes out under $3k.

Cost was the main issue that gave Skytrak the edge over GC2 for me. I think that GC2 is a great piece of equipment, but the edge in technology/accuracy did not convince me that spending more than 3X the money was reasonable given my budget and my goals in seeking a launch monitor and sim. You already own a ST so you know what it can do. I just started using PG a couple of days ago, and it has worked well thus far. Most ST users with TGC say good things about it as well.

If I were you, I would buy either PG or TGC based on how those games play on the PC, the reported experience of users who have used both, and your preference for how each is purchased/leased. If you decide that ST isn't good enough for you even with a decent sim, then you can always sell it and move to GC2 - though at considerably greater expense.

I've used both and unless I didn't have to worry about money I would not purchase the GC2. I've really enjoyed the SkyTrak for the money. And if I didn't have to worry about money I'd probably buy a Trackman :-).

For what it's worth, I have my PC situated in a media closet in the middle of my house, connected to a wireless HDMI transmitter and an ethernet line run to an outdoor WIFI access point on the back patio. About 40-50ft away from the access point is my sim setup (projector and SkyTrak) in the backyard. I've never had any issues with the SkyTrak dropping connection over WIFI. There very well could be units with WIFI reception issues, but I think if you ensure your wireless infrastructure is adequate, chances are you'll be just fine.
