  • Ball Flight Issue

Sorry if there has been a post on this issue, but did not see it. May be mixed in with a long thread somewhere.

Anyway, something that has been a major frustration of mine with the Skytrak is the ball flight I continue to get with it. I hit a natural draw. Have played several times on a real course this year and have been hitting very nice draws and all. However, it seems most times I hit using the ST the ball always pulls or I get weird fades when I know I hit a draw.

Anyone had this issue? Just wonder if I am doing something wrong. I have aligned the unit with my mat and all so it cannot be that (I do not think).

Are you seeing this in the SkyTrak app or in TGC or PG?

This has been brought up randomly, and there was supposedly a fix in the new TGC update to address side spin issues, but I'm starting to wonder if it's a SkyTrak issue. I am in Denver and have only been able to play IRL once this year because of crap weather. That round was after having my ST for a month or so and based on my ball flight on the ST rangeI expected to be fighting a bit of a hook. My ball flight IRL was no where near as shaped as I expected, however.

To all of the forum members who have done side by side comparisons with SkyTrak and CG2 - has side spin been a reading that has been measured and compared?

Are you using the ball you play with? Can you try using a black line or even a straight side logo (Pro V1) and align toward the unit prior to hitting? Sounds more like a the raw data isn't measuring right (meaning there has to be something causing it), so not really a ball flight model issue.

I am hitting Titleist NXT Tour's in the simulator. Normally play Pro V1's on the course. Not going to draw a line on the ball since it will leave a mark on my screen. I'll try to face the logo towards the unit more and see what happens. Does the amount of light on the ball make a big difference? By that , I hit in my garage and use the natural light during the day and then turn on my lamp if I use at night.

I have hit a couple shots with mine in almost complete darkness I could just barely see the ball. Skytrak picked up the shot just fine.

Also if you get a chance to hit some shots outside not into a net or screen you need to try it. I was absolutely convinced my skytrak was wrong until I took my net down and hit some shots out into my field. Ball flight is dead on what it shows in the app and distance was very close

No need to draw a line then - that NXT Tour logo will work just fine. And ambient light like you are talking about won't have any effect.

I have had experience with push draws if started offline far enough right for a right handed player being modeled as fades. I have experience with GC2 doing this too. I'm not sure about the pulls you're seeing though. A buddy of mine hits a push draw and everytime he hits on skytrak he gets 30-40 yard fades. They will start right of the target line 6-8 degrees and then just keep fading. If I open the skytrak up a couple degrees (aiming the lasers right of the target line) his normal ball flight will show no problem.

So you are saying that by adjusting the "twist" of the unit, you are influencing the directional SPIN of the ball??? That should only affect horizontal launch.

Yes. You would think it would only affect the horizontal launch but out of trial an error it seems to allow the device to more accurately pick up the spin axis. Give it a try outside.
