Without high ceilings, I have to use my SkyTrak out on the back deck where I have a 'permanent' Net Return and CCE mat setup. I have a pretty stout gaming rig for race driving simulator in the attic/game room but I'm unwilling to move the full-ATX PC to my outdoor hitting station. I have a work laptop that has just enough GPU to run JNPG at medium settings, but it easily overheats outdoors in the summer. And, at this point in time with next gen GPU hardware incoming, I'm hesitant to purchase a proper gaming laptop. Plus, I really don't want to lug out hardware, extension cords, a small table/platform, just to play a quick few holes.
So I thought I'd share this somewhat compromised yet simple set-up. Using SkyTrak on network mode, it is connected to my gaming rig running JNPG in the attic. I then use Chrome Remote Desktop on my Android phone to control the game on the rig and view the screen. So, essentially, I hit the ball for SkyTrak into the NetReturn while my phone is tucked in my back pocket almost like a scorecard holder. And this is where the shot delay comes in handy, given the time I need after I've hit the shot and then to reach for the phone to view results. Predictably, with Remote Desktop, animation isn't the greatest. There's no performance stats I can pull up, but my eye tells me the shot trace and course 'movement' is around 10 to 15 FPS??, its not exactly smooth, but its not annoying choppy either. It's enough to get a good sense what the ball flight and roll is doing. Obviously, I'm not trying to generate an immersive experience, I really just need to know where I'm hitting from, what the shot did and where the ball ended up. And in this case, it works well enough for me.
A couple of other random bench notes:
The graphics speed over remote desktop is also good enough to show "grid animations" on the putting green. I was initially worried about that, but it wasn't an issue.
Set up is easy, just turn on SkyTrak, fire up the gaming rig and JNPG upstairs, go downstairs to back deck with phone and SkyTrak in hand all on battery power, no wires. Fire up remote desktop on phone. Process easily takes under 5 minutes. By keeping this setup time as short as possible, I've found that I've stolen far more moments to do some quick golfing.
Chrome RD's pinch-and-zoom works pretty well. I have to do that in order to effectively navigate the screens on JNPG. Touching the screen can be a little problematic at times since that registers as a mouse click. So an inadvertant touch will target you incorrectly. I use a leather flip case, almost exactly like a score card holder, to prevent these issues when I pocket or remove my phone.
I've used this on my iPad mini as well with good results, the extra screen real estate is nice. I've actually found that I prefer to take my phone out of my pocket instead of reaching for the ground to pick up my iPad after every shot.

Next experiment I want to try is Steam In-Home Streaming feature using my windows tablet.
