  • New Skytraker question about Perfect Golf

    Hi everyone,
New Skytrak user here. Adjusting to the low distances on Skytrak and wondering if I'm really that much shorter with longer clubs in real life, since even range balls go further at my local range (laser confirmed). But that's another issue. I'm not a great golfer, so it's probably an issue with me.

It seems from my reading that Perfect Golf is a good sim with a reasonably low cost. What do I need to know to play Augusta (or Magnolia, whatever it's called on Perfect Golf)?

99 for the game improvement package from Skytrak
the 249 price JNPG "premium" package? is that what lets me play Augusta?
34 for downloading from Steam (is there any other way to get the software?)

What am I missing here? Is this the correct set of software/access prices before I buy everything? Unless Skytrak will have an app for Mac OS soon, I'll actually need to buy a PC to run the dang thing.

    Thanks for any advice.

That sounds correct to me. Then download augusta from the other forum, add to your course directory, and you're ready to rock. Instructions for where to save the course files are on the other site, as well. Not sure if that info has been posted here yet.

Does this mean that I could download a course file with the 199 package and not pay up for 'premium' perfect golf?

I ran PG on my MAC with an i5 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024 MB. no issues but bought a PC instead to run TGC

You'll need premium to be able to download and play user created courses.

Tbernardmd how did you get skytrak to work with the Mac?

used the USB cable connection and installed Windows 10 on bootcamp.

Okay, thanks. Had a glimmer of hope that there was another workaround.

its really pretty easy. Just get a copy of windows and google how to install on bootcamp. Did not take long at all. After you install it, restart your mac and hold the option button. Choose the bootcamp drive and off you go.

Sounds good. No problems with an Intel integrated graphics card? It's just a Macbook Air. Processor speed should be fine, but there's no dedicated graphics memory. (I don't know much about gaming or computers, obviously.) It'd certainly be cheaper than buying a whole new machine, though a bare-bones desktop could be cheap, I guess.

I suggest buy JNPG on Steam first, and run it to make sure the graphics and program works ok for you as a pc game before buying the simulation package.
That's how I found out a 4-year old laptop i7 with dedicated graphics card, works ok at 1080p (not great and not super fast, but fine for a slow moving golf simulation). I only tried playing JNPG with Skytrak once so far since I installed last week. Seems to play fine, except that chipping and putting was a pain, and hard to get a feel for.

Good call, A.West. Thanks. If I buy JNPG on Steam, can I buy the Mac version and then just have my account access a Windows version later with bootcamp, or must they be bought separately? I'd love to not buy a Windows license for bootcamp until I know things will work.

From what I see, yes, you can buy and install first under one OS, then install under another OS on a different PC. I see that JNPG falls under "SteamPlay"
"What is Steam Play? Steam Play allows you to purchase your games once and play anywhere. Whether you have purchased your Steam Play enabled game on a Mac or PC (both Windows and Linux), you will be able to play on the other platform free of charge

Just a little information on the distance issue you are seeing. I had the same thoughts when I got my skytrak. I learned that it's a combination of hitting off a mat and indoor swing. I worked out the indoor swing quick, but the mat thing kept nagging me. I have a decent divot action mat, but nothing will replicate hitting off grass except.....hitting off grass. It's really helped my impact strike and I am now starting to see accurate readings (+/- 5 yards). I would keep at it, it's actually helped me strike the ball more pure.

rsuslow it's funny, I've actually noticed that myself in this first week. Now I'm thin far more often than fat. Hopefully that'll improve, too!
