  • Surface pro 4 and simulator

Has anyone used or know if a surface pro 4 with the i5 processor can handle any of the 3 simulators? Especially the graphics. I'm not real knowledgeable of graphics cards etc.
    thanks.

Since you didn't specify what simulators you are interested in it is impossible to give a definite answer.

In general any decent golf simulator program requires a stand alone video card. Laptops usually have a built in graphics chip which is not powerful enough to do the job. Laptops also don't have the top end of the Ix family processors simply because they are designed to run on battery power for extended time.

I think there's a decent chance it can handle it. You can download JNPG from steam to try it as a stand alone game and see how it performs for only about $30.

i only know of 3, TGC, E6 and JNPG. Just trying to find out if it is even doable.

You can download both PG and TGC on Steam to check them out.

I'm not too familiar with Steam policies but maybe check their refund policy.

You can also contact E6 about a demo if you are seriously considering that option.

Personally i doubt they will run well but everyone's definition of running well is different so who knows what you will think. If you already have the surface pro then worth a try.

TGC- I really don't think a surface will run even on the lowest settings
              JNPG- highly highly unlikely
              E6- maybe
              ProTee- it will likely run

I run JNPG at 1080 with low detail setting on a 4 year old i7 laptop with a 550m graphics card. Get only 8 to 10 fps but it works for a golf simulator. My guess is that the i5 Surface can at least match it. I'll eventually upgrade after I can find a cheap pc with a 1060 card. Anyway, it's not expensive to use Steam to pre-test the computer you have.

                  8 to 10 fps!

It's not pretty, but as long as I can see the ball go, and where I need to hit it next, it still boils down to my swing, not the fps.

Haha, that's why i say what works for one may not work for another! Always best to try it for yourself.

With that low of value I'd suggest going to 720 instead of 1080. Probably would double the frame rate and 720 is still a pretty good picture.

If you have a decent desktop pc try and steam stream it to the surface pro. it works surprisingly well if you have a decent graphics card and good network speed.

Play your games in exciting new ways with Steam Remote Play.
