I have used and enjoyed my Skytrak for a couple of months but had an opportunity to grab a used gc2 for a great price. I took the opportunity of having both to hit some shots with the units side by side with the gc2 in lefty mode. Below are the results. Pretty darn good for the Skytrak if you ask me. The ball speeds and launch angles are spot on. The push/pull was probably just an alignment issue b/c the differences are pretty consistent. Verses the gc2 the Skytrak's back and sidespin was generally higher on the driver but very close on the 7i. The carry distances for the driver were a touch lower on Skytrak vs gc2 but that could just be the flight algorithms. All told my takeaway is that Skytrak is great value for the money.

He owns neither one of the units he's talking about so therefore his opinion is meaningless. I however have owned both and have loved both. I currently own only a Skytrak however because I flipped my GC2 two months after buying it used for a nice profit. Is it a great unit? Yes. Do I regret selling it and getting the cheaper Skytrak? Not at all. I still have numbers saved that are nearly identical to each other from my time with the GC2 vs Skytrak.

Your ignorance is dully noted. I have had a GC2 for 3 years and before that I had a Vector Pro which is in essence uses the same two ball picture methodology as a Skytrak. Actually the Vector Pro had software which allowed you to see exactly what was being analyzed I.e ball composite photo, ball perimeter detection, line detection etc. It also had the same difficulty capturing balls launched with different ball speeds from a fixed spot.

In the interest of adding something productive to this thread, I dug up my post from last summer where I compared some of the GC2 numbers I still had vs what I was getting on my new Skytrak at the time. This was 5 Skytrak shots vs 7 GC2 shots with a driver. All testing was done outside with the same driver and shaft, not at the same time however. While I'm not a robot, my current GHIN handicap is +2.2. So I figure I can at least put a somewhat consistent swing on the ball. Interpret it as you please.
...................Ball Speed......Launch......Back Spin......Side Angle......Side Spin......Carry
GC2_______150.71_______10.8______2,626_______.86R_ ________-692.57_____245.71
ST_________149_________11.81_____2,606_______.89L_ _________-158.71____245.29

I fully believe the results you got and don't for one second believe that the Skytrak to GC2 comparision is like a Civic to a Vette.
If you got a bad unit then sure, you could believe that. With properly functioning units, no way.

I've had both and I feel compelled to pony up some support for Skytrak. While I love my GC2, I had zero complaints about my ST. I believe it's on point for the price. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The new software & app look awesome! I'm a little jealous that I didn't have a chance to try them out! They've come a long way, for sure.

Unfortunately by posting an averaged result you lost all the meaningful info.
Unless the skytrak has a hard error/bias one would expect the averages to converge to the same.
A simple example: assume you hit a driver exactly 200 yards. But the skytrak measured it at 100 yards the first time and 300 yards the second. And the gc2 measured it at 200 yards both times. The average would be 200 yards for each and look perfect for both but which one is better?
I did this all the time with the optishot. The driving range had a built in spreadsheet to show average results. Compared to a Protee the average results were good. The difference was you couldn't trust any single shot on the optishot but you could on the Protee. The Protee was simply ten times better.
Also in your original post there was follow-on discussion from your results that is worth reading. The post is here: http://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/...4785#post44785
Edit: personally I think skytrak guys try too hard to justify their unit. Using the earlier analogy you bought a Civic...but so what? The Civic is a good car. I'd be happy with either one.Last edited by FaultyClubs; 09-08-2016, 08:38 PM.

Unless I'm missing something the original post showed really low spin numbers with the gc2 when testing both units at the same time. He did a later test with just the gc2 and the spin numbers were much more in line with the Skytrak numbers. He was getting spin rates of around 700 with a driver on the gc2 in the original comparisons. Not sure why so much conversation about the accuracy of skytrak when the gc2 is the one that seemed to have to mis reads.

I'm not sure what the gc2 has to offer but I am super content with the skytrak. I practice on the range all the time. Really enjoy working the wedges from 40yds-100 yds on the smallest available greens. The carry is extremely accurate and I can now pretty much predict the yard after my strike. It's that accurate. Now they have gone and added the skills challenge. Are you kidding me this crazy cool. My avg score 2015 78.3 and my avg score 2016 75.7 = I am improving.
I haven't started accumulating the equipment necessary for TGC yet, too busy with the SKyTrak range but hopefully soon.
Thanks SkyTrak

To me, they are very close. If not exact between the two with ball flight, spin, distance, etc. The only reason I upgraded was the ease of use when I have friends over. The Skytrak is picky on where the ball is for flops, putting, driver. Yes, its all close to the red dot...but with GC2 I can just tell the person to put it in this area until the light turn green...and it works, every single time. If it was just me doing range work, I would have no problem with keeping the Skytrak. The other thing I liked about the Skytrak, is you can change elevation in the app. I live at 7000 feet, so I could dial in my true distances where I live. Using the GC2, and FS1...the distances are always short due to it being setup for sea-level.
