  • Does tee color matter?

The reason I'm asking if tee color matters is because I have a lot of mis-reads when using my driver. The driver is grey head with a yellow shaft so it's not a white driver issue (and I haven't had problems with my hybrids which are white). The tees I'm using are the yellow version of these:

I've tried placing it right on the laser dot and slightly behind with not much improvement. I also used green painter's tape and covered the tee and the mid-reads did go down but I'm still getting enough that it's annoying.

    Thanks

I have not used those particular tees, but I would caution against it. That is a lot of surface area to be illuminated by the infrared light. Often when you hit a ball, the tee goes flying and is mixed up in the image with the golf balls. Maybe if you could keep it secured, but still - I'd probably lump that into the 'avoid using white rubber tees' for the same reason.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any suggestions for tees?

I use a white tee that is fixed and a r15 white head. I position the red dot an inch or 2 in front of my tee. I hit 30 drives tonight no missed shots or misreads.

Yep, that's the way around it. Just keep both of those out of the picture.

Thanks for the replies. I will try securing the tee so it isn't getting mixed in with the ball image. I have now read that there are a few people using the Tomahawk tees and securing them with a Tee Claw.

I do have a fixed tee that came with the mat but I can't remove the tee like your's coz. I may look at getting on like your's.

I have some tees that I have to chase around. I think tomahawk but I prefer that tee. It doesn't go anywhere.

So for those of you using the tee claw, do you take it out after you drive with it or are you leaving it in even when you're hitting irons? If so does it get in the way?

I use the tee claw with the tomahawk tee. It just stays in the whole time I just shove the tee off the the side of my mat. The only thing I don't like about the tomahawk tees is that they are fairly unstable. Sometimes takes a bit to get it to hole the ball reliably.

I'm using the tomahawk tees tethered down underneath my CCE mat with a skinny elastic headband so it doesn't fly away and hopefully doesn't interfere with the Skytrak cameras...

I still think I'm getting some interference from the tees, or more likely my driver head because I'll pipe one and then it ends up registering as a low liner way to the left (perhaps because that's the direction clubhead is going through follow-through?) I have attached a picture of my driver with what the Skytrak would see. I have covered these areas with black hockey tape (dull black color) and it seems to help.

PS - my driver is the ~5 year old Nike SQ Dymo.

I use normal white tees without any apparent issue, but I have white fairway woods that cause frequent (30%+/-) failure-to-register problems. Failures with my other clubs are rare.

I may get some blue painters masking tape to practice with my woods.
