More shot registration issues. Excuse the frustration, but I'm getting frustrated.

I've worked with support on this and requested a replacement unit while I was within the 30-day period. They decided to send me a loaner unit, under credit card ransom. I strongly disagree with that approach. I received the unit and also received the tarp for my cage in the same time-frame.

After covering my cage, the issue appeared to go away, so i returned the loaner unit.

    Until today...

I don't have time to call support right now, so I'll just leave this here in the hopes that SkyTrak_Seth can shed some light on the issue and/or assist in facilitating a *new*, advance, replacement unit being shipped out. You can hold my CC# hostage again if you want.

I watched the video...I don't think it looks extremely bright or anything. It is strange though that you mentioned that you had zero missed shots when the sun was in a different position - what was the position where it worked vs didn't work? Also, you said "no read" so fast in that video I'm wondering if the unit is not triggering at all. So to help get to the bottom of this faster, is the problem that your unit reads the shot (top light turns red and laser goes away) and never flies it in the app, or the unit never acts like it saw a swing in the first place?

      3) Your IRL driver distance fluctuates from 197 to 290 in one round!?!? Maybe you can post a screenshot of a shot history table and I can take a look at all the data and get a better idea as to what's going on.
No, I'm not complaining, I'm pointing it out in case others have the same issue. In fact, I fully accept, and endorse that my Lexan cage is doing something, because when I put it back in the Lexan cage last night, I again could not get shots to register while in my cage.

As far as point 2, I should have been more clear. I did close the skytrak app prior to using JNPG. The funny thing is when this happens, either with the skytrak app or JNPG, the connection clearly exists, as far as both pieces of software are concerned...ie, the two green lights light up on the JNPG software connector, and in skytrak, you can see the battery indicator as well as the level indicator, so clearly the unit is connected to the software. It's just strange when it happens. However, it has not happened since permanently removing it from my cage, so for now, I blame the cage for my issues and so I thought I would point it out for others, in case they had some type of protective cage or case that could cause problems.

3--Yes, quite a range with the driver. Mishit a couple of the short ones, and also played a course with a long rough. As you can imagine, when you don't always hit the fairway, and you compound it with a mishit, it doesn't go quite as far

As I stated, I do believe my skytrak does a fairly good job with my shot shape, but distances seem to be short, the longer I go. And honestly, even my shorter irons are a tad short, but 10 yards difference with an 8 iron is manageable for simulator purposes. It's the really short drives that make it hard to play. And again, it would be different if I saw driver ranges like what I showed with my Arccos stats; but I am nowhere close to those numbers. In fact, after I wrote this yesterday, I hit 15 drivers on skytrak. Average carry was 165, with average total of 185. Looking at the numbers that I posted above, you can clearly see that my average total is much higher than 185. Granted, I can't calculate carry on those real life shots, so is it possible that I carried the ball 165 on average, and it rolled 60-75 yards each time? Probably possible, but maybe a little unlikely.

I would be happy to share my driver stats with you from my skytrak.

And it cannot go without saying, thank you for your contributions to this forum. Without you, I'm not so sure skytrak would be as popular and well-liked as it is

Hey, no worries! I'd love to take a look a sample of say 5-10 driver shots. Just a screenshot of that history table would do. Also, do you have your altitude adjusted for your location?

I think if you hung a tarp on the opening to close out some of that sunlight I think you would solve your problem. Worth a try since you should be able to get one fairly cheap.

I've always said that I think the driver/woods are short of IRL numbers. I have to strike the ball just about perfect to get what I would consider to be a fairly avg. IRL number for me with a driver. I rarely get my IRL numbers with a 3-wood. I had a heckuva time just trying to figure out how to get a 3 wood to read at all. About an inch behind the dot and I rarely get a no-read.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Just a couple of drives and I could tell it was better. Now to see if the 3W gets better numbers.

Just one shot needed with the 3W. SO, if anyone is feeling short with their woods this is a great work around. I flushed the very first shot and it hit about 225 I think it was and rolled out to 247. That's just about spot on. Thanks again!

What was weird is that it didn't impact my iron numbers at all. Always thought the irons were pretty close after getting used to the set up mat, etc. Hit my 8i and it was traveling just like before the changes made. I can now go to the range with complete confidence! EXCITED EXCITED as Steve the monkey would say.

I'll take a pic later today to display where in the sky the sun is/was at both instances (working and not).

It does appear that when the issue appears, the unit does not trigger at all. The laser light never goes out. When it happens, simply picking up the unit and rotating it 180* eliminates the issue. I think in the video the light even went out once I waved a club by it once turned around.

When failing, it is as-if the unit never saw a swing yes.

Also, I popped on to Skygolf last night to make sure my loaner return had been received and it was still listed as pending so I checked the UPS tracking and sure enough, it was never delivered and appear stuck (lost) in Texas. My wife will contact them today to figure out what is going on.

I do not expect a replacement until you receive your original loaner back.

I have a matching tarp coming to drape as a 'door', but that is for weather reasons. I do not believe that would be a solution to this situation, but it will be interesting to test for sure.

Oh, ok - that is EXTREMELY useful! If it is not triggering, then that rules out the app (thank God). So what we are left with is hardware issue or environment issue. I've never seen lighting (especially ambient lighting) affect the unit's ability to be triggered. But it does sound like from what you are describing, that could be the case.

Regarding the loaner, so you received a loaner and then sent it back? Did that unit work differently than yours?

Actually, I had them send me the loaner to address a different issue. I am unable to charge & use at the same time. However, that turned out to be (an extremely weird) power issue and the loaner reacted identically. This one is pretty bizarre and if I get a chance, I'll replicate and post a video of that issue.

Unfortunately, while the shot registration issue had happened in the past and Clay was fairly shocked when I described it to him at the time, the issue never happened when I was in possession of the loaner and I was unable to test that.

So did you send your unit back for repair of the no-trigger? Or just had a loaner sent out?

At the time, the no trigger issue really hadn't been much more then anomaly and I had written it off as such. Also, I didn't have the cage fully covered at that time and was not very confident in the test, so I wrote it off as extremely intermittent at the time and did not address it.

I do have the altitude adjusted to around 1,000 which is fairly typical altitude for where I play (around Des Moines, Iowa, USA). I have an additional thought based on a recently posted thread. I wonder what your thoughts may be in relation to tees? I stack and tether 3 tomahawk tees for my tee shots. I have always done this. I have a variety of colors, but my typical stack is a neon pink, green, and yellow tee. I suppose it is entirely possible that the tees cause a tracking issue at times? I may try using a single tee for awhile to see if the results change. I do notice when I really exaggerate my stance (much wider) and my spine angle, I can launch the ball on a 17 or 18 degree launch and I get better results, which is to be expected. The interesting thing is that I do not need to do this when I play on a real course. I take my regular stance and spine tilt, and seem to launch the ball on the expected trajectory. I play with a 12 degree lofted driver, for the sole purpose of the higher launching, further carrying shot.

Anyway, I will try the plain tee and report back the results. I will also post a screenshot from my next driver session.

                    Thanks,

Correct, that's just for the skytrak range. All the flight algorithms are different from software to software. TGC was always longer to me until they changed the algorithm settings for backspin (I can't remember if it was for low or high backspin now) as well as sidespin. You can turn that correction off in the TGC settings (the stand alone settings on the desktop, not in the TGC menu) and the distances should go back up. Or you can boost your driver by 2 or 3 if you don't want to turn off the spin correction. I'd just set the Skytrak app settings first to give you a baseline, then change TGC to match. That way, they're both in line with the Trajectory Optimizer.

I'm not saying adjust the settings to your particular geographical location. I tested and compared those settings I posted against the Flightscope algo and that's what made the yardages match. The trajectory optimizer is regarded as a very accurate flight model, so that's what I made my range app match. You still get your true ball speed numbers, spin, etc. thanks to the Skytrak. This just strictly changes the flight algo results. If you're 1,000 above see level in real life, than you might want to go higher than 1,800 setting in order to account for that because you're going to get longer distances than us at sea level.

Sorry Vega, Seth had asked up above if I had my altitude adjusted for my location, and I meant to quote his text, but I did not get it quoted. So, to answer his question, yes I am adjusted for my altitude. However, I will use your adjustments for a few sessions and compare the results. I would expect your settings to make a significant difference. Now, if I could just "bump up" those setting in JNPG so I could eclipse the 200 yard mark more often, I would be happy. Unfortunately, JNPG doesn't seem to have a way to make any adjustments like that.

Ahhh I gotcha. Yeah, give them whirl and see. I know it's "gaming" the system a tad, but you're not manipulating your raw numbers the skytrak is giving you. I find with these adjustments, my distances are perfect. As for JNPG, I don't have it so I can't say for sure but I believe altitude on there is strictly tied to the course itself and changes from course to course. Let us know how those settings work out for you in the app. Cheers
