  • Range problems

So I bit on the deal for the demo version of the Skytrak this week and I'm pumped, but I had some problems today at the range. I know that hitting off grass is not recommended, but my range doesn't have mats, so I didn't expect those shots to be accurate (and they weren't even in the ballpark)... what I was disappointed with was trying to hit driver - the Skytrak did not pick up one shot of my 15 drivers. It was an overcast morning with no direct sunlight and I was hitting to the East, so the Skytrak was facing North. Anyone have any ideas why it wouldn't register? The balls are typical range balls (crappy assorted white balls with ~1/4 inch red band all the way around. BTW, I hit a few in my garage last night and it seemed fine.

Mine doesn't miss a beat in my basement. Absolutely perfect. I've only taken it to the range twice. The one time it was during the last hour of daylight. It was amazing just like in my basement. The next time it was for an hour between 10am and 11 am. Many missed shots and some of the shots read were wrong shape even. It wasn't worth taking that day. The only difference was the ambient light. I haven't taken outdoors since. I haven't heard from anybody on how to use it outdoors successfully.

Thanks for the response coz. Maybe I'll try it on a day that's not so overcast and see how it goes. I was just really disappointed that it picked up 0/15 drivers. BTW, go bulldogs! Even though they just beat my cousin with that late field goal Saturday, my wife and brother both graduated from there.

How high was the grass? Anything longer than tee box height will create too many reflections in the image. Also outside you need be more careful to keep things out of the image background.

Yeah, it was definitely longer than a tee box. Thanks for the tips Seth.

I was at the range hitting off a mat. The same location both times. Totally different experiences. The only difference was the time of day/ Suns location. I can try it again. Should I expect it to work outside with the sun high in the sky?

Ok third time at the range. The sun was out high and bright early afternoon. Skytrak worked perfectly. I'm pretty sure I know why it didn't work late morning. The range that I go to has wooden dividers between mats and they are painted white. In the morning the sun was shining on the divider behind me and probably interfered with skytrak picking up the ball vs divider. In the afternoon the divider was shaded so it was white but darker than the ball! ????????
