  • Problem with ball flight height average.

Not sure if anyone else has picked up on this, or if it is just an issue with the fact the I am using metric metres and not yards.

but looking at the shot history. The average height is wrong all the time. Only just picked up in this today after a few shots with the new Mizuno S5 50deg wedge I bought.

height for each of the six shots are as follows.. In metres. 22, 26, 24, 23, 24, 22.

skytrak data said the average was 21. Which I immediately thought... wtf...??

average is actually. 23.5. So would have thought that skytrak would come out with an average of either 23 or 24, depending if they were rounding up or down.

i checked my other data for other clubs and found the same problem. Strangely skytrak was averaging the height wrong by around -1 or -2 metres each time.

Not sure if this is just a metric thing or if those of you who use yards as your measurement have the same problem or not.

I am running the latest version of skytrak software on PC.

    OK,

    doing some math on this.

Seth - just a suggestion on this.... can you check out the programming mathematics used by the programmers when they do the conversion to metres.?

taking the above numbers in metres as listed in my previous post. To get the distance (height) in yards, we need to divide those numbers by 0.9 (1 yard is less than 1 metre) but then doing this and re-calculating the average does not give the number that is calculated by the software (21) as mentioned in my previous post.

but, if I multiply the numbers by 0.9 we get the following numbers... 19.8, 23.4, 21.6, 20.7, 21.6, 19.8 - for a total of 126.9 and an average of 21.15. assuming the rounding down, we get the answer being 21.

This does not make sense. Multiplying the number by 0.9 is meant to give the answer in metres, (converting yards to metres) but the number listed in the shot history is meant to already be in metres.

So someone on the programming team isn't getting their conversions or their maths right somewhere along the line.

check your math on the relationship between yards/meters And see answer below...you were on the right track.

Thanks for finding this. I'll check on it. Probably just a mixup in conversion.

Ah, after a quick look, I believe the average for that column is correctly displayed in meters, but the individual shots are still displaying in yards.

Thanks for clearing that up Seth. I never really noticed it before as I would usually do a lot more shots than 6 before having a look at the shot history data. So just assumed it was correct. But after only 6 shots and then checking, I thought that something wasn't quite right.

        Cheers.

I assume that this will be another fix for the next update along with the other distance fixes with the practice greens and game improvement pack?

Since it's only a display issue (the data behind the scenes is still correct), I think I'll save it for the following release since we are trying to get out v2.5.3 now. But yeah, I'll get it taken care of for sure.
