DIY protective case troubleshooting (pic attached)

Any ideas why the following aluminum protective cover isn't working (picture attached below)? I used the template that somebody posted somewhere on the forum to make the cut-outs. I started thinking it was a reflection issue, so I tried covering the cut-out edges in black hockey tape (dull black in color), but it did not help. I have tried ~50 shots and have had 0 register.

My plan was to create an entire box to slide over top of the skytrak, but I obviously am not going to move forward until I can actually get shots to register. Also... should I be worried that an aluminum box might interfere with my wifi?

When your testing it out, do you have the protective plate 2mm or less from the skytrak?

ya, I've got it hugged up right against it. The aluminum is about 3mm or 1/8 inch thick btw.

I haven't started my DIY case project yet, but when I printed out Davray's schematic at home, my printer did not print to scale. The top left has a reference line of 50mm and when i measured my printout it came out to 45mm.

Did your schematic do the same thing?

ya, you have to select the little box that says "fit to page" and then it will print to scale perfectly 50mm

Since Skytrak's tech relies on cameras with wide angle lens, if there are any variation from lens to lens then it would affect the protective case cover openings. I'm guessing this is the case since there seem to be multiple posters saying they had to slowly enlarge the openings based off the schematic.

Ah ok. I guess I haven't seen any of the people's posts that said that had to keep enlarging the openings. I did open them up a little, but not a lot, so I just wanted to see what everybody has to say before I grind it down 10 different times. Thank you for the help!

Also curious if the metal strip between the small opening and the main big opening is an issue. Thought in davrays design he said that little area could be covered by the lexan but still had to be clear/see through. Not sure if that's an issue, but something to try is the other troubleshooting issues don't work
