  • Any way to check if SkyTrak is in good order (besides having to send it in)?

My SkyTrak took a nasty shank shot off a 3 wood today. Thank goodness I have the super heavy duty metal protective case I bought from SkyTrak Japan (so just a barely noticeable minor dent on the case).

I was hitting well prior to the shank. However, post-shank, all my shots had pretty excessive right side spins to them (1.5-2k) causing massive slices whereas prior to shank I has drawing most shots. So was just wondering in my SkyTrak is still in good order or was somehow damaged by the shank? How can one test other than sending it back to SkyTrak?

Now I know SkyTrak itself does not do any calculations - it simply takes and sends 2 pictures to the computer or iPad to process. Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong here. So base on that, as long as shots are still being captured, can one assume the SkyTrak is still in good order (i.e., it's still taking 2 pictures and sending them to the computer/iPad)? Or is it possible that the 2 pictures being sent could possibly be defective/blurred/etc. due to damage to camera, but because pictures are still being sent to computer/iPad, it is just being processed but spitting out bad data because the images themselves are defective/blurred/etc.?

Any help/insights on this would be greatly appreciated.

Of course, it could just be me that the shank shocked me and caused me to swing w an excessive out-to-in club path afterwards causing these extreme right side spin numbers and therefore slices. I haven't taken my SkyTrak to the range to test vs real ball flight for a while - so might just do that if I still think it is producing inaccurate excessive right side spin numbers.

Ouch sorry man, but I have not hit my skytrak yet to know what happens, I would test it at the range as you are thinking to see what your ball flight is actually doing compare it to the ipad readings and go from there, you might have gave it a concussion and it needs time to heal, or you knocked something loose and needs to be sent in for surgery, not an expert on this good luck I hope it was just your swing.

UPDATE: Thank goodness was cracked ball. Replaced w new ball and everything back to normal. Also had shaken unit a bit and do not hear anything loose inside. Maybe my steel protective shield is so strong it cracked the ball haha... Attached is pic of the dent the ball put on the shield for anyone interested.

In meantime, maybe will follow standard NFL concussion protocol and let my SkyTrak rest for a few days anyways =) and when have time maybe re-test SkyTrak on range again just to make sure all is good. Thanks.

Can you post a link to where you bought that shield from? Is the cutout at the top small enough to stop a ball from going through it?

Seems like a self-diagnostic routine a user could activate would be a helpful update.

            Totally agree.

Here is a link to the shield. The opening is the same size as the plastic lens, so it won't stop a ball there.

Does the ST unit just sit on the base of that shield or is it secured somehow? I'd imagine that if it's not secured, an impact to the shield would cause the metal face plate to smack into the ST before both fall over backwards, and that the impact of the shield striking the ST might not be ideal. Is there any impact absorbing material between the shield and the ST, or any way to affix the ST to the shield base so the faceplate when struck doesn't in turn smack into the ST?

Shield screws tightly to SkyTrak w 3 screws at bottom. There is a perfectly designed good gap between shield and SkyTrak to absorb shock. Attaching a picture for you guys below (you can also see how thick the steel is).

I really wish this case could be shipped to the US. Going to Hong Kong in Jan. That might be my best bet.

Yes, some sort of diagnostic or calibration check would be a great addition.
