  • SkyTrak + WGT + Aim

I recently purchased SkyTrak w/ WGT and was a bit confused why the ball was not in the center of the screen on some fairways. I have an Apple iPad, Apple TV and Projector w/ screen and I'm trying to figure out where I'm suppose to aim on the screen. Do I aim at the flag? Do I have to move the flag on the iPad or can aim left or right of flag? I will eventually upgrade to TGC or some other software but want to get acclimated to playing virtual golf first.

it's been quite a while since i played wgt, but from what i remember, there are a lot of weird angles due to it using images for the program. I believe you move the stick to aim. Also, i wouldn't even say that WGT and TGC or any other sim software are the same for acclimating to sim golf. WGT seemed to be in a class by itself, just really different from the others.

I agree with wbond. I wouldn't use WGT as a gauge for what sim golf is like. WGT overall is just awful for sim use. Like wbond pointed out, the fact that it is 2D images makes it very difficult to ever be directly behind the ball. To aim you have to go the overhead view and the drag the aim arc to where you want to aim. It's nice I guess to be able to play some form of a sim without having to drop the money on a PC capable of playing TGC or PG. I was in the same boat as you a little over a year ago. I started out just saying I was going to be content with WGT but that didn't last long.

And i started out thinking that the range software would be good enough, Bubba said that will change, man was he right.

Please let me know how your MicroCenter experience goes. I have one about 20 minutes from here and I'm days away from buying as well. The SkyTrak was delivered today and I just need to get a little further along on the build. Thanks!

I am getting really close to saying screw the uphill battle to find a used gc2 at a justifiable condition and cost and just getting a skytrak. then TGC when I move and setup simulator somewhere and just enjoy the apple app in meantime in my net, yeah and have like $3000 extra to get a few different used JDM iron sets and some drivers for my eventual "studio" to play with to mix things up.

you guys all seem to be enjoying the crap out of your skytraks and TGC plenty, and most of the bad stuff that has me thinking I need to spend 2.5x as much for used that I read is from 6 months ago or longer.

I think that most if not all of the bugs have been worked out. The first month or two there were plenty of issues to deal with. Now I think it's pretty quiet. As for TGC..... I said it when I first bought it.... and even 15 months after.... best money I have ever spent. My old software ( Redchain) was cartoonish...if that's a word. TGC feels more like real golf. I used to think like Wbond...... I don't need to play with others or compete. Now most of my rounds are spent practicing for the next event. TGC is addicting as is the tour. The tour and the tour website has come a long way..... When I first started, there wasn't even a driving range with TGC and now there are hundreds to chose from..... If you can't find one you like, you can build your own.

I wish I didn't read this thread. Been planning for the ST plus WGT to keep me going for a few months rather dropping the money now for a PC and TGC.

Not to go go too far off topic, but how many people are running TGC and NOT using a projector/screen? I have a 42" plasma that I can wheel into the garage as a display rather than a hitting screen/projector.

I don't use an impact screen and love it. Sound is much, much better when hitting in to a net. With the delay on the Skytrak, it works out just about perfect to hit your shot then look up at the tv. Here is a video of me using mine. I have a 48" LCD that sits in front of me just behind where you see the Skytrak sitting in the video. I wouldn't let not having an impact screen or projector deter you, you won't miss a beat.

Well, I got a gc2 yesterday.....my golfsmith finally did something ($4k) that made me just do it. Came with a 42" flatscreen and computer. Unfortunately I really have nowhere to put it, probably will set it up at parents house for time being.

i have to say, there was a moment where even at that price, I really was torn between just getting skytrack. Like you guys said, it seems to be very well ironed out.
