  • Skytrak Armour

Ok, I'm starting this thread to see if protecting the Skytrak box is still a must for some people.

I have read countless posts on this subject and generally feel that this is a need for users. I have owned the Skytrak for a couple of months and agree for the most part. Honestly, it doesn't seem an issue for myself, however I couldn't possibly let my kids, favorite friends, or even a touring pro use it without completely freaking out!!!

My question is this. Is this a need for users that still exists for a reasonable enough amount of people?

I am a manufacturing engineer and have all the available information and software to develop a legit protective case that can make the Skytrak bulletproof. I can integrate leveling devices, locating devices, and alignment aids into the case. Basically whatever a user wants.

I can have these produced at a reasonable cost and shipped to a user. This is what I can do.

I have a desire to this, have started on a prototype for myself, but am really looking for more interest than personal use. Time is a huge motivator for me as I'd rather be hacking away on the TGC. LOL!

If you are interested, please PM me or just reply to this thread so I can get an idea of the need.

Disclaimer: yes I have the Davray sketch and will use some of that information in whatever design I come up with. My plan would be to optimize and improve overall function of whatever case I come up with. I see location, leveling, protection, and consistency of setup being the utmost importance.

  • i would purchase the original... if still possible!

Gary, myself and a friend are both interested in purchasing the original. That'd be two for the order

    • I didn't hear back from my manufacturer today, but I can make it work one way or another. No problem. Sounds like there is real interest for the original outside of ebay. Here's what I can do.

Let's go directly thru PayPal $149 for the original. I will do free shipping to US and pop for $14 on shipping outside of US. May can bulk ship if multiple ordered.

First 15 get dibs on the small batch run. Let me know where you are located if outside US and I'll update shipping cost. Order is held when the $149 hits PayPal!!!

I have made a few "enhancements" to the original that will only help functionality. Suggestions from the thread!

Just paypal and that's it? No ebay listing?
I'd be interested in the lite version but I really want the top covered since I'm in my garage and get bounce backs off the floor.

Yes PayPal only on the original. Avoid eBay fees. Has a top and a machined base with 2 piece design. The things that drive the higher price. I'll get a CAD file loaded in the near future.

    • i was also hoping for ebay listing also... i live in australia. never used PayPal

Hmm, I don't think you have to be a member to send money. Let me check on that. I'm trying to save money this way. Maybe not? eBay takes 10%. Reason why I've went in another direction...

    • ok.. i will just have to join PayPal.

      • Gary - I'll definitely take one of the new batch if there are some left? Let me know and I'll do the PayPal thing with shipping to the UK. Thanks!

        • DirtyGarry24 received the new model, surprisingly stout for a 'lite' model. Bought it since the gf might start using ST so it's nice to have that peace of mind. Any thoughts of adding a layer of thin rubber material to the base where the ST unit sits?

Ya, I guess lite is relative right. Ha! No problem adding a thin layer of rubber as long as it doesn't "lift" the ST too high in relation to the window. Thanks for the purchase and good luck going forward.

        • Due to forum member interest I have placed an order for the original Skytrak Armour. 10 - 13 business days for manufacturing. Please place your order thru PayPal $149 +shipping. I'll cover $14 of shipping so US will be free.

The original Armour is a 2 piece design. It has a top that is folded, welded, and smoothed. The base is .375" thk steel that is precision machined. The "Lite" version doesn't have a top, is a 1 piece design, and the base and enclosure is .125" material. Both have the same .125" thk enclosure and proven window that fully protect the SkyTrak. It really comes down to what you want/need. A much heavier 2 piece design with top coverage or a cheaper, lighter version without top protection. I have both and at this time really have no preference.

          • So I finally had a little bit of time to sit down and pull together some CAD pics of my original Armour with enhancements. This is the item that will be for forum members who order up thru PayPal. Limited order placed today. Enhancements include a bigger hole that will accommodate that pesky SkyTrak issued bullseye level. It will fit now regardless of tolerances. The second enhancement was at the suggestion of wbond awhile back. He wanted sight to be able to see the top of the ST while assembling inside the case. So, I've added sight. I've also changed the base from .375" thk material to .25" thk material. Other enhancements include stylings to the base and top enclosure. No sharp edges. Have a look and order up if you are interested.

              • Wow ebay said I'd have this on May 2nd but it arrived today what a nice surprise. I think that took 2 days to get here and good lord is this thing a beast. Immediately took it out of the plastic joke of a case and got her all setup in the new shield! Looks like a tank and works perfectly so far. I got the one with the open top as I don't have kids and if bounce backs become an issue I figured I could lay a magazine or piece of foam over it. Great job on the shield, appreciate the stellar customer service as well. Anyone want to buy a ST protective case
