Skytrak ending hybernation - any setup problems with the latest software or firmware?

I have been offline playing outdoors since April, and the Skytrak got stored away in June in getting setup for my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary, part of which took place in my simulator area of my basement (we showed the 50 years of memories video on my hitting screen!)

So between kids and wives moving things in the storage room since then, some of my carefully stored equipment got lost! Namely my long
USB to micro USB cable! Grrr. Anyways, trudged off to the store and fought boxing day crowd to get another 10ft cable.

I set up the machine via cable to my laptop and things seemed to work just fine. Then I got the brilliant idea to upgrade my skytrak software (I was on version 2.2, and I believe I got upgraded to 2.5.2). My machine firmware was also automatically upgraded.

And now the system won't work. When the top red light stops flashing (after a few machine and laptop resets), my shots won't register.

I am wondering a number of things. Could it be the usb cable? Is it the firmware? Is it the software? Has my subscription run out and Skytrak is letting me suffer without sending me an e-mail? Is my machine annoyed at me for being in storage for so long?

So many ridiculous thoughts permeating my brain I thought I would take a break and search on this forum, which is always a great source of help. I see a lot of people swear that going
wifi is the bomb, but I also see now that it won't work on a 5g network. I have a 5g booster sytem on my wifi, so I guess I should just connect to the original wifi signal and not the 5g boosted one?

Anyways, I have been out of the game for 8 months, so any tips to get back in it are greatly appreciated. I want to have it up and running for my new years eve party now that I have TGC and can handle multiple players.

    Thanks!

Go with 2.4ghz wifi and my guess is you'll be set.

So I took another look at the updated user manual and just connected directly to the skytrak's wifi signal and the unit worked just fine (on the practice range). Actually, it was the least lag I have ever had (about 2 to 3 seconds it seemed, which is pretty darn good). I assume that I would be able to play TGC this way too? Or do I need to be hooked up on my home wifi in order to be able to play TGC?

If not, I think I am just going to keep doing it this way, then I won't be impacted by all of the other bandwidth getting sucked up all day by the xboxs and iphones and cable tv.

Update. Went to page 81 of the Skytrak software thread and see that need to be in wifi mode to access all of the TGC courses. So will have to make do with that when want to play TGC, but I think when I am just going to practive, I will link directly to the skytrak wifi signal. Will see how things have changed using wifi in past 8 months. Seems to be the bomb now, but last winter it was laggy as heck for me to the point where I went to a usb connection to save my sanity. Fingers crossed!

Further update. Went to wifi connection, and it consistently took 8 to 9 seconds for my shot to register. Did a speed test on my 100MB/s wifi service and got 68Mb/s download and 18Mb/s upload results over a couple of tests. Kid is playing Xbox upstairs and the girls are watching netflix so not bad I guess.

I think my service is 5g so unless I can get is slowed down to 2.4Ghz I am screwed. When was this issue discovered? And is there a fix coming to make the software work better with the 5g service? Hope so. 8 to 9 seconds is a total buzzkill.

Could just be your connection. The 100 mb/s service is meaningless to skytrak, it doesn't send anything out to the internet. However, if your actual wifi signal is weak or far away from the router, it could have sending the info to your router or your computer could have trouble receiving the signal.

Most 5G Access Points / Routers have 2.4Ghz built in. The best thing to do is to login in to the router and see what is showing up in there and if possible give the 2.4Ghz network a different name!

So it turns out that I am in the 2.4ghz mode when I am getting the 8-9 second lag. With respect to the comment of perhaps my signal is lousy in the simulator room, I did the speedtest testing from right where the Skytrak sits, so is that not indicative of a good signal?

This is all so tiring - I just want to play a few rounds before heading back to work tomorrow. I find my patience with technology is decreasing inversely with my aging! Going to give the usb cabling another try and keep my fingers crossed.

update. USB wiring works today. Only change from yesterday is that I had my skytrak hooked up to my wifi last night, and just went and plugged it in to usb today and went for it.

Skytrak lag very acceptable at 2-3 seconds. Opened up TGC now and it says my license key is invalid. I bought a lifetime subscription so I am guessing my skytrak licence is out of date? I know that is over a year old, by about 5 days. I will try renewing that and see if I can get into TGC. Might get there yet.

Got TGC to open but now the top light stays red with the USB connected, and also when connected with wifi. My only other thought is to get a paper clip and reset the whole unit.

Or give up and go to the casino. I am tired of fighting with this damn thing.

Connect through the Skytrak app. Setup the wifi connection once it goes green gake USB cable and plug it in to a power receptacle.

Still unable to get rid of 8 second lag, but happy to report that I am able to now play TGC connected to USB port, with a 2 to 3 second lag. I think the key was resetting the skytrak.

Thanks for all of your suggestions Sledge.
