  • Skytrak and NXT Tour S balls...crazy spin

so i've been using my skytrak for a few weeks now and the results seemed good. one thing i noted was slightly less distance than what I was seeing on the course. I attributed that to just me over estimating my distances in real life so i just kept at it.

Today I had a chance to test my skytrak more and i flushed a couple of shots that ended up short of where I would expect it, like convincingly seemed like an error because i would be 15 yards beyond the green with the shot i hit. I took a look at the spin numbers and it was getting like 10,000 spin for a 9 iron...

I mean...i want to believe I can generate that spin but that's impossible since I play mizuno 850 forged clubs. I thought it was because the ball was yellow so i switch over the the white nxt tours...still 10,000 spin on a nearly identical shot (in terms of feel).

Then i switched over to a prov1 and a chromesoft, spin went down to low 7,500-8,200 which is where I expect my full 9 iron spin to be and distance jumped 12 yards...has anyone else noticed weird spin numbers from certain balls. I can't imagine how it would extrapolate 10,000 spin from a 9 iron.

whats your ball speed and launch angle? 10 k spin with a 9 is high, but not crazy high.

28 degrees on one which read 9,000 (NXT) carry 127
26.5 on the one which read 7,300 (pro v1) carry 135

      Both 9 irons

      21.7 launch 9,800 spin carry 142 (nxt)
      22.1 launch 10,500 sping carry 147 (nxt)
22.7 launch 5,100 spin carry 157 (chrome soft)
21.8 launch 5,300 spin carry 167 (chrome soft)

      7 Iron figures

Hmm. the 9 iron numbers don't shock me. you're launching them awfully high, and based on the carry and spin you have pretty fast clubhead speed.

7 iron number though, I'm with you something isn't right. I know different balls will perform differently for everyone, but I can't imagine nearly double spin. What kind of sample size are we looking at? Are you pulling out outliers here or is this a pretty consistent pattern? Cause if it is, I'm stumped.

I didn't really consistently do any tests after that, i just assumed the variations had to do with my strike usually. But today I was striking them very consistently and just happened to notice some crazy spin numbers. I go by X,000 per club rule (but I know thats an estimate). when it was spinning 9,000 for a 7 iron I thought that looked a bit strange. I'll do some more tests next time when I have more time.
