    Invite people over, skytrak gacks

So I thought I had everything up and running after the long break. Then took a week off. Now I have invited some friends to try my new toy on Saturday and of course it quits working!

I have tried resetting a number of times, and just running it on usb. I have also reinstalled the skytrak software, and installed the latest version of TGC.

My common problem seems to be it will have two lower green, then the upper signal keeps going red - green, red - green.

The only other thing I can think of is a different usb cable perhaps? Working off wifi is not an option as I have about an 11 second lag. Although if I can't get usb working that may be my only choice!

I am out of ideas at this point. So tired of fighting with this thing.

Only other thing is machine has automatically updated itself (Windows 10) and installed Cortana. LIkely a red herring. I cant even get the machine to recognize my wireless network now after a complete reset. Sigh

That's the worst man, I've been there before, lucky it was just a hard reset of the skytrak and computer that made it all work fine again and didn't happen since. It just sucks the most when it happens when you want to show it off and have some fun

Indeed. Just spent an hour on the phone with my internet provider trying some tweaks on my internet connection. Trying different channels on the modem to see if that does the trick but no luck so far. I recall seeing a primer a week or so back on recommended modem settings, will have to hunt that down now that I am getting deep into the bowels of my wifi network...

Back ion business. Found this thread:

Been through search 5 times and cant find step by step instructions.. So I connect my skytrak with usb in the tgc interface hit play game and the disconnect

For whatever reason, it motivated me to try a shorter usb cable, and bang, I was able to connect and play TGC using usb. I was also able to do my network connection, but unfortunately for me, that is two channels now that both give me 11 second lag, so unless I find a magic network bullet, I am going to have to always be tethered to the USB port. Oh well, major first world problem.

My biggest challenge now is finding a long enough usb cord that works properly, so that I don't have to alter my other cables for sound and picture. More first world problems!

Anyways, for any newbies having issues, follow the advice in the link - hook up using usb cable, then establish your network connection.

Now it is going to be rather embarrassing if my buddies who have not played since September kick my butt on Saturday!

Not sure of your setup but have you just tried getting a wifi extender that plugs into a wall outlet? Got one for 30-40 bucks off amazon and did wonders for me and my detached garage. Have the same 3-4 second delay on wifi or usb now. If you can, getting that wifi working will equal a ton less no reads then you get with the usb

I will definitely look into that. Wifi is far preferable given the way my setup is arranged. Thanks for the tip!

Buy a separate adapter for wifi and have that one connect directly to the skytrak. That is what I did. I have one wireless adapter connected to my network and the other connects directly to the skytrak. I find this to be the most reliable.

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but not sure what you mean by have that one connect directly to the skytrak? Do you mean by USB cable from the extender to the skytrak? So it is wifi all the way to the extender then usb from the extender to the skytrak? Thanks!

I mean buy a wireless adapter that is used only for connecting directly to skytrak, not your network. It just plugs into a usb port. I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters...s=wifi+adapter

And now, just to give me one more kick in the crotch, after removing and reinstalling the skytrak software for the third time tonight, it tells me my 30 day test period is over and I need to register my unit!

I have it off to the side charging up in a safe place. I am going to assume the battery must be low. I just gotta laugh about what a disaster the last 3 nights have been, staying up late getting things set up.

The funny thing is, earlier in the evening I had everything running fine on usb, and even played a hole with 3 players on TGC.

Only problem is that I did not have skytrak in its case. So I unplugged the usb to put it in its protective case, and things have gone downhill from there. LOL. No good deed really ever does go unpunished, does it.

Almost back to where I started. Read some posts here and disabled windows firewall and Windows defender.

Was able to connect wirelessly but still have 11 second lag. May have to put up with it tomorrow if can't get usb connection working or do something to eliminate wifi lag.

If the adapter didnt work out for you, may want to try returning that and getting the wifi extender and see how that works. If you can successfully connect with a good wifi signal youll have a much better time with the skytrak and tgc anyway then you ever will with the usb connection.

For whatever weird reason wifi connection has a lot less no reads then usb connection for tgc and skytrak. This has been tested and proved by a bunch of guys on here. You may have already read about the wifi vs usb connections before in other threads here, but getting a good wifi signal out to my garage was key to a much better experience for me.

I hear you with the frustration though, hope it all works out well soon with it

The guy at the computer shop talked me out of an extender when I explained that I was getting 90mb/s on speedtest on my laptop in the golf simulator area. There must be a modem setting that is holding me back.....

I think I will see if I can borrow one of Par2pro's skytrak to see if I get the same result. That will help narrow it down a bit. Could also be the laptop. It is a high end gaming laptop but I was able to get a much lower lag using wireless on my iPad. Just can't play TGC on my iPad ...

Thanks for the suggestions and positive vibes. much appreciated! And congrats on that 67 you shot last summer - it was fun to watch on YouTube! Something for me to aspire to.

Thanks a lot, had a lot of fun playing some of those full length courses people had designed and requested for me to play. Was definitely the best score ive shot on a full 7200+ yard course so far. I gotta get back to doing some of those videos, was a fun challenge to myself to try to perform with the camera rolling if nothing else. My back hurting has slowed my golfing time down a bunch the last few months. But slowly feeling better and getting back to it. Its always the touch and feel that goes first it seems when you take time off haha

But yea, that makes sense if the wifi signal doesnt have enough juice in the first place. The wifi extender is great but it does degrade the speed some, so may not be worth it. Curious though, whats your internet speed in the house normally (what you are paying to get)? Because I have solid 30 up and 30 down fios internet in the house and still got a terrible signal in the garage at first. Most of the time the skytrak would barely connect to it (if it did at all) and would have huge lag spikes. The extender fixed all that though.

I pay for 100 mp/s and was getting 90mb/s when testing the other night in the simulator room. I read about a ping test last night so ran a few of those and got b's.

Cant say what the differences in speedtests I was getting the the garage with and without the extender is though as my computer is in the basement of my house and I have wifi and usb cords ran out to my detached garage. So the only thing that isnt directly wired to the router is the skytrak, that is 100% wifi connection for that
