  • Skytrak software update and ball physics

Anyone download new update and notice balls behaving differently on ST range? My wedges and short irons have the ball ripping backward with spin on green. Have greens set to firm also.

I do get some backspin IRL but not this much...

I think you may be right - I watched a YouTube video of someone using the NEW game improvement feature and their ball was spinning backwards more than it looked like it should on shots in and around 100 yards. The feature itself looked pretty good though!

Which update? The latest version I know is 2.5.3 from October

Same version thought it was new. I just downloaded v 2.5.3 last night.

How much backspin are you getting? Hitting from a mat can significantly affect backspin so it might not be as wrong as it seems...

Getting same spin rates I have always had - 10k+ on 60 degree and around 10k for sand wedge. I am hitting off same matt, same balls etc... Only thing that changed was update.

Maybe this new version is more realistic. My sandwedge used to stop on a dime in ST range but not really roll back. I thought there should have been some roll. Now it feels like I am Phil Mickelson everytime I hit a wedge. I'll try and post a video when I get a chance.

What ball are you using? Have you tried different ones?

Also, what are your course conditions under session settings, perhaps this has changed?

Not the best video or biggest roll back but you get the idea. Does this seem normal?

With >10k of backspin, I would say yes. The range physics probably do not simulate the softness of a green, so you are likely seeing how the spin would be when landing on a pretty hard surface.
Have you had the same experience in one of the sims (TGC, JNPG, etc)?

Thanks for comments. Agreed on the ST range green. The spin is much more relaxed on TGC greens.

I don't see that much spin back in the range app. I have settings set to soft to keep roll out to a minimum. I use a snell ball and spin a 56 around 10,000. I would say your video shows twice as much spin back as I see. I should have the same version that you're using but I can't check right now. Don't really have any suggestion though on why it's different.

Off topic, but how could y'all eat all of that little girls candy? Funny stuff...

DirtyGarry24 I can't put my finger on it either. I've tried all green setting and they still spin pretty hard. I am using prov1 balls. Oh well not a huge deal. If I can get them to rip back that fast in real life that would be cool.

Haha I forgot I even had that video of my daughter's Halloween. For the record, we felt bad and did not eat all her candy, only most of it. It was funny as hell though.

Timdm3 Do you play in TGC? You've probably said already, but I wonder if the issue follows into there? If not, I wouldn't worry too much other scratch my head. Side spin is still good?

I love messing with them kiddos. Lol! They're so easy.

I do have TGC and everything looks normal there. Much less bite on TGC greens. Side spin and all else looks normal.

Messing with the kiddies never gets old!

Balls behave differently on the range in longer different grass and on the green in real life too. It's very very very very hard to back up ball when you don't hit the green - there is roll out in normal fairway conditions.
