Shots going way left. Could my setup be wrong...? I'm a new Skytrak Owner

I'm getting shot readings going 20-30 yards left of target with a PW, so i'm curious if maybe i'm lining up my ST incorrectly or if there is problem with the unit. It's my understanding the ball is placed with the logo facing towards the laser, while placed on the laser dot. I also have the unit sitting next to my mat and the same height as the mat. Is that what the rest of you guys do as well?

I'm currently a 5 handicap and like most people, my normal miss when i play is a slice and my shot shape is a baby fade, so i'm quite concerned my shots feel solid, yet are going 20+ yards left of the target line. I've tried the alignment feature and aligned it perfectly, so my only thoughts are either my ST is not calibrated properly or i'm worried about a toe shank and as a result i'm rotating my upper body early and shutting the club face down. However, even when i try to hit a big fade/slice, the ball barely goes to the right.

Thoughts on what the issues could be that are resulting in such wild #'s? My plan for tomorrow is to take the ST unit to the range and see what the ball does in the air, as opposed to a net. I guess i'll know for sure if it's a calibration issue or not, but i'm still curious if others have experienced the same thing as me?

Jason welcome. I have shots like that, but it's because I changed my grip and haven't been able to get the club on the proper plane to match the new strong grip. It will be interesting to see what you get outdoors where you can see what your shot is actually doing and the SkyTrak is showing.

That happens to me when I first got mine, it boiled down to me tryng my upmost not to hit the unit, best take it on range and test.

Also, are you offset, the brain is clever and u will subconsciously hit towards centre, especially if your low hcp

Thanks guys for the response. I did move my net more to the center and even put a tie wrap on the net in the very center to see where the ball was hitting in the net. It looks like the ball is hitting in the approximate spot. I'll take it to the range tomorrow and hopefully that will help. I ordered an Armor for it and maybe that too will help once i get it and started using it.

Seems like too big of a miss to me Jason with a PW. Is it curving or straight pull? I've read that the offset mentioned above can cause this, but not sure.

It's kind of both. It's starting a little left and then moving further left. I'm hitting my PW about 128 on average these days and a 20 yard miss is just obscene with a PW, especially when it feels like i'm flushing them.

I'm hopeful it's just over rotation in an effort not to hit the Skytrak.

What is the start angle? That's the key if it's curving. You said that you aligned using the alignment dots, did you have to "skew" your ST box in order to align to those dots? I've flip flopped on this, but am now in the camp that says you should align to the face of the ST.

Do you have TGC? Best way to check is to hit putts in TGC with an alignment rod right next to your putter. You should be able hit a straight putt fairly easily and have it read straight.

If you don't have TGC, do virtually the same in the ST range app but use your highest lofted wedge and hit little 40-50 yard shots and watch the start angle. A 5 cap, you'll know when you hit it straight. I'd say skew the ST until it reads the start angle as it should, then take it to the range and test.

This just happened to me the other day as I took skytrak out of the Sim room for a few days. After I reinstalled it everything was going way left.

I reinstalled it according to physical bubble on the unit but when I put ST in alignment mode the 2 laser dots were not parallel with unit. I adjusted feet on protective case accordingly to get dots parallel with unit and all is good now. Hope this helps.

This happens because device isn't aligned correctly. Put your SkyTrak in alignment mode and make sure the two dots are parallel to your stance/mat or aimed directly at whatever your target is. After doing so , hit half wedges and you will notice straighter shots or slight pulls since your hit fades.

Thanks for the tip, but i've tried alignment mode before and i still had the same left results. I did try some pitch shots and noticed the ball going slightly straighter. I just assumed the ball didn't move as far left because of the lack of speed/spin. I think there must be something to swinging towards the net if it's not aligned properly to your stance, as well as protecting from hitting a hosel rocket and over rotating the club face.

One of the biggest deficiency in an amateurs setup is target alignment, which causes a host of other problems. Put a camera down the line and check your alignment

I've seen some weird things at times, but usually they are related to alignment and making sure the leveling is also close to 0 degrees for both side to side and front to back. You can check that by clicking the level bubble on the homepage of the ST app. I brought mine to the range today and it was almost 100% accurate with my shot shape, a few were misreads which I expected with my 4W and 3W, but that was fixed by placing the ball about 1/2 an inch to 1 inch behind the laser. After that it was 100% accurate. Good luck!

Same thing happened to me. My setup is in the garage and I have limited space to feel like I can swing freely which causes me to pull a lot of shots. Do not worry about hitting the unit as long as you have a protective case around it. At a 5 HC your ball striking is good enough not to have any crazy shots that would hit the unit. My advice to anyone wanting to get a Skytrak is make sure your sim has plenty of space to swing. Selling my home soon and plan on the next home having the xtra space to install a dedicated sim room.

Like mentioned before I believe you have a case of the "insides" something is telling you or preventing you from swinging freely which is causing that block left.

Take it to the range, compare with real ball flight and don't worry about hitting the unit. If you're a -5 then you won't come anywhere near it.
