Hi, does anyone know why when you hit a ball on a Trackman it displays ball data first, then it changes the data once the rest of the tiles show up. Normalization switched off.

Trackman data changes after a few seconds

Can you be more specific on which data? I do recall some data being changed when I hit them outdoor (I think they were things like launch angle), but it's the last data which pops up that matters. In my opinion, I think the ball extrapolates the data within the first 30yards which is the same as normalized data, then based on the real condition it changes depending on the actual outcome.

Good question, here is a video of what I mean - the launch angle and ball speed (and club data so smash factor) changes. I've analysed the data on a super high speed camera and it seems the first reading is more correct of the ACTUAL data ... so then it changes to what I would say less correct data... which I find strange.

The only things that change are Ball Speed from 113.9 to 114.6 and Launch Angle from 16.9 to 16.5. That is 0.7mph and 0.4 deg difference.
First of all, Trackman states a tolerance within that range and second of all to me I think anything less than 2-3mph or deg is acceptable. I don’t know which high camera you have but they might even have tolerances too and I am sure it will be around 1 at the least. Even Foresight has a tolerance and with Ball Speed and Launch Angle both units were extremely close with each other so as a general rule of thumb I would trust what Trackman spits out in ball data especially. You can refer to my final comparison in this forum as well as other professional researches that had the very similar result as me. I can give you the link if you want.Last edited by LEO MODE; 09-20-2018, 10:36 AM.

Thank you I saw your other thread ... but also been through the Quintic study (are you familiar with it?)
I understand the tolerances - but data is data... I am still don't understand why it changes (I've seen it change over 2mph in ball speed and over 1 degree) ... if you're doing serious data gathering that can have an impact.http://www.24-7.golf

Yeah I remember you put up the link which triggered me an interest last year about Quintic and Trackman’s accuracy (and a camera vs radar debate overall). I totally understand your point too.
Think about it this way though (again, I am not saying either is right). What if Quintic is wrong (what if Quintic tolerance was off when that off result came out)? Is Quintic an industry standard? Is there a proof that Quintic is absolutely 100% accurate at all shots? Probably not.
Again, maybe Quintic is right and both Trackman and GC are wrong. Throughout my testing, Ball Speed, Launch Angle and Launch Direction data have been extremely close and consistent between Trackman and Foresight. Both are used the most in the industry by golf professionals, robot facilities and club manufacturers. So my conclusion was that those parameters should be reliable. If Quintic was accurate at least all professional environment should be using it.
Lastly and most importantly, I realized that for ball data, radar seems to be more reliable than camera simply due to the nature of how the data is caputred. For club data I do think camera has a way ahead of the edge.
It is unfortunate that none of the devices can output 100% pinpoint accurate data all the time and if they do I can assure you that the competitor is going out of business.Last edited by LEO MODE; 09-20-2018, 03:49 PM.

Agree on the points above mate, Quintic published their findings but I dont think that it make much difference
However, back to the original question... I am still baffled why it changes. It's not the end of the world... but I'd like to know! :-)http://www.24-7.golf
