  • New Member - Questions about trackman set-up in Boston - advice needed

Hi - I’m a new member - hoping to get a high end trackman set-up in the Boston area. I’ve been in touch with Trackman and will likely go to them to have it installed. However, I can’t get over the sticker shock of their set-up (mid $50k’s). The trackman device is $19k, their computer is <$2k, projector is ~$5k, taxes etc. etc. I’m trying to understand if there is another way to get a screen, net, soundproofing, professional installation, etc for a lot cheaper than the $20-25k remaining.

Does anyone have contacts of installation people in the Boston area? Any thoughts around cost for the turf, net, screen, etc. My room is 18 wide x 24 length and 10 ft height. Thank you very much for the help!

Wow that install price is pricey. At least though it’s going to have clean professional look. Honestly though, have you looked at one of those enclosure kits? I have similar dimensions as you. If you’re handy, even if just a little bit, they’re pretty easy to put together. I put mine together, and I’m by no means handy at all. Hitting mats, landing pads, etc are probably also marked up a ton by track man installers? Do the track man installers actually have to do any construction work (running wires, patching drywall, etc) and maybe that’s why their so expensive? Soundproofing I don’t have. That’s something I’d want professionally done, so it looks clean, but that’s just my opinion.

They don’t do any wiring. You need to have electrician install all the cords ahead of time. And the block in the ceiling for the projector. But I know their quality and workmanship is really good. I’m probably going to go with them. But seems like there should be someone that is handy/pro that could do it cheaper.

Did you look at their flex cage option as well? I believe that one is about $44k. You truly can do all of this yourself for much cheaper, but would be tough to get that level of fit and finish DYI (unless of course you are handy). Suspect DYI could be done for around $30k to $35k including the indoor unit.

I felt like you as well before I had Trackman complete my install, struggling with the "value equation" of the Trackman team install. I don't question the value of their install teams work anymore. My wife and I did prep the space with paint, etc. and we installed the cork board/carpet tile surround near the screen before the Trackman installer came out. With the turf (super high quality), underfloor, projector install, screen install, computer setup, etc. they do end up delivering a turn-key solution. Whether or not there is value in that for you can only be answered by you! I'm a pretty handy guy, but I was thankful they did those parts and with their experience I know it turned out better than I would have accomplished all on my own. I have posted pics of my sim in the Simulator Build thread last night so you can see some of the "fit and finish" of the Trackman install team's work:
