My only question would be what are you driving with that video card, and how much video ram on your 1050? Projector? Monitors?

The 1050 is a little on the weak side. It will run it but you will have to turn the graphics down quite a bit for it to be smooth. The GPU is the most important part of the computer for TGC.

To compare GPU's go to GPUboss.com . If possible stay at or above the recommended specs for TGC. Which is a GTX970 or GTX1060

When comparing cards on GPUboss.com..... look at gaming and graphics scores and disregard all other scores especially overall score.

IMO that graphics card is highly suspect. It will run, but you'll struggle.

In addition to the info keither5150 has provided I would add that you can also use this link to compare pretty much any decent graphics card out there. As he says, consensus is you want a minimum base level of either the GTX 970 (you might be able to pick one of these up cheaply secondhand as they're last years model) or the GTX 1060 and above. There is a decent user comparison of the 3GB vs the 6Gb variant of the GTX 1060 here.

I also think the CPU itself is quite under powered for a gaming rig - it was released Q1 2011 and wasn't that great even then. Is this a machine that you already have lying about and are hoping to re-purpose?

CPU is on the light side.... you are right. I am running a i7 2600k at 3.4 and it runs just fine with a GTX980ti. I am thinking if a better video card is added, the machine will run TGC just fine.

I wouldn't go for it. TGC 2 is coming out soon which will likely increase the graphics card requirement. Since the image on a projector is so blown up the differences in graphic quality make a huge difference in the experience versus playing on a 30in computer monitor.

I'd actually lean on GTX 1070 or better just to future proof.

Will the GTX 1060 3GB run well for TGC or is the 6GB a must?

The GTX 1060 6GB is suggested. The 3GB version is a lesser card than the GTX 970

You really need to get a GTX1060 with 6GB or else you may regret it with TGC2 right around the corner...

Just doing a quick search for laptop with a 1060 graphics card look like it runs for around ~$900 on the lower end.

Depends on how high you value graphic quality with your golf sim. If you are fine with medium settings and turning tree count down then those above choices would work. If you want high settings with most graphics turned to max then 1060 or better.

If you are like me, then you're debating on whether you to buy a 1080 or AMD Vega even though it is complete overkill on a 1080p projector =)

Look at it this way: you're spending a lot of money on the software,so does it really makes good sense to try to save a few hundred dollars on a less capable video card or on less memory? The system will only be as strong as the weakest link. If it were me, I wouldn't try to shave pennies and possibly risk disappointment in the overall package.
