Remote PC for TGC/GC2

G'Day members,

Ive just started in all this simulation shenanigans!

So far GC2 and FR1 on an ageing 2nd gen i5 with 4gb ram, and a radeon 7700. (the pc came with the used GC2 from a golf store).
I would like to run TGC and am considering building (or buying) a gaming rig. My dilemma is building a no expense spared computer just to run TGC in my garage simulator.

Can I install the mega PC in my study, and remote to it with the current ageing PC? The GC2 and projector would be connected to the simulator PC but sharing resource to the mega pc.
I think it may work, but thoughts, experience, confirmation would be helpful.

You would need a long USB cable for the Bluetooth dongle and of course a long HDMI cable for the video. And I know the longer cable you get....there is some signal degradation so it’ll depend how far of run you’d need. . After that......Air Keyboard app should allow you to play the round using an iPad to move cursor and whatnot.

with most cables, you won't need to worry about signal degradation. its all 1's and 0's.

I’m confused, could I not just share the bluetooth resource on the local pc with the remote pc? And why a long hdmi cable? The projector would be the display for the slave pc...just like with a normal Remote Desktop set up, the monitor does need to be connected to the Remote Desktop. Wouldn’t be much point otherwise.

In theory, you could make this work. I don't know how good the experience would be. While static pictures may look fine, the motion shots could be jumpy and have issues. You might have a better experience just using the old PC in a lower quality video mode. You may also run into issues with the shared bluetooth resources working properly. That method may not be compatible with the GC2. You could always try it. But, my experience has been that this method experiences frequent problems connecting and staying connected. If you want to use the USB connection on the GC2 then you will not be able to go much further than 15'. USB cables are very subject to signal degradation. I have several 100' HDMI cables and I use them without an amp all the time. USB... not so.

My recommendation would be to just try it out. Your situation will likely be different in at least a few ways than anyone else. You won't really know until you try it. Good Luck!
