  • Which camera i should buy?

    Hi guys,

i know there a many posts, but im looking for someting special.
I'm playing with GC2+HMT and FSX for training mode.
In FSX you can easy add a USB camera - tried it with a normal USB webcam.

I want a camera with the following specs:
    - min 120 fps
    - for front view
    - working with FSX
    - distance ball <-> camera 2.7 yards / 2.5 meters
    - pricy <500
Would be nice if i dont have to start the camera and activate slow motion function.
Will be great if i start the computer and the camera works immediately without pushing any button (-:

    Thanks for help!!
    Philip

Sorry for double post - can you delete this post? I choosed the wrong forum.

I have a Logitech brio and a c920, neither are good enough to meet your specs. I think @inorkua in the thread on his camera setup had some links for cameras that might donwhat you want.

Philip, as Stingreye said, /@Inorkua had a good suggestion which I went with for £50-60 camera and has worked well over a short distance. Check out his recording systems with kineova thread.

I will say this though. I've got rolling shutter cameras at the moment but It wont be long until I purchase a better camera which has a global shutter. It's so important if you want to see the shaft properly in high fps to get a global shutter. My swings pretty quick 115+ so it's blurred a fair bit on the downswing with the rolling shutter.

However, I'm not sure if you can find a camera which has high fps and a global shutter for the sort of money you are looking at. I'd love to be proved wrong though! Anyone?

A 5mm lens may have too much zoom, which means you would have to have the camera pretty far away from you to not be cutting off your feet and head. It says the angle of view is 65 degrees. If you assume your club head reaches a peak height of 9 feet, you would need to have the camera a little over 7 feet away. How much dos that camera cost?

            not cheap:
            camera 700
            lens 300
            Which lens would you prefer?

Yikes! That is quite a bit. The lens is fine if your room dimensions allow you to set the camera far enough back. Actually now that I think about it, it probably needs to be more like 10.5 feet back because your swing has more width than height. I would talk to your sales rep and tell him where exactly you plan to mount the cameras and explain that you need a field of view at least 9 feet high and 13 feet wide (or measure how far your club travels for yourself)

Philip. I can only comment on my specific Image Souce camera in which I am pleased. I did not need an extra lense and I can film myself/swing with camera 8 feet behind me. I do not need a lot of light to film. This is the camera that Foresight uses. I found this after I purchased it.

I’ve been talking to Image source about a camera that will work with the all sports motion view. Main concern is being able to see shaft on downswing and have good resolution. I have been slowly improving my lighting in my garage. I know the lighting is a big factor.
They also recommended this one - a little better res with 115 FPS. I know the adjustable shutter has a lot to do with it in addition to the FPS.
1/3 inch Aptina CMOS sensor (MT9V024). 752×480 (0.4 MP), up to 115 fps. Global shutter. Trigger and I/O inputs. Manufactured by The Imaging Source. Windows and Linux software included. USB 3.0 color industrial camera. DFK 23UV024.

Be interesting to see your results, i have the two cheap china ones and they are fine but got shaft blur, so eventually will upgrade, but good for body positions and hands through the swing.

My main objective is post video processing, basically voice activated (can call - Player name & Club (gets stored in settings file until player name or club is called again) then call "Record" this auto records two swings (downline / face on) then post video processing automatically puts them side by side in sync for analysis in your swing software (e.g. cSwing, GASP), the new video is created in the \player folder\date folder\ with a filename that contains the Club name. Can also trigger the swing through sound (with a 3 second delay on cameras) but I prefer voice triggers.

                    Hi Philip.
How did your test go with the camera? Could you post some videos or pictures?

I'm interested in this as well. Currently using two cheap ELP cameras I got from amazon for $90 total. They work fine for body positions but struggle with anything with the shaft. I've got them working in V1 Pro so for now they are fine. But I would like to upgrade to something a bit better in the future so I'll be keeping an eye here.

I know V1 can be a little picky about cameras since they want you to buy their IDS cameras.. but actually those might be cheaper than some of the setups I've seen on here.
