  • Q for the PC ppl out there

I can't get the Creative Golf 3D demo to work.

Says it requires 1.5gb of active memory and I only have 1gb. I think the 1gb it's referring to is the integrated memory on my processor (i5-7400). Dedicated GPU is GTX 1060 3gb. Purchased the non-sim version of TGC through Steam and it works fine. I've tried updating the GPU driver but it's up to date. The PC is a pre-built HP and I ran Windows Fresh Start when I got it.

Any thoughts out there on how to get the demo to run? Last time I owned a Windows PC was a decade ago so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I think you need more RAM. It's fairly easy to install more. Do you have a link to the computer you have?

    Hardware requirements
    • Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10
    • 2.4GHz processor
    • 2 GB RAM
    • 512MB graphic card
    • pixel shader 3.0

It's the HP 580-023W and has 8gb of RAM

What is the exact model of your PC? 1Gb of RAM sounds very low for a PC which does not sound like it's decades old. If you have the model we can see the exact specs.

Oops cross posted. See the PC has 8GB of RAM more than enough for creative golf

What does task manager show your free memory as under the performance tab?

Shows the full 8gb with roughly 25% in use

Ok. So it's not a RAM issue.
Where did the "it requires 1.5gb of active memory" come from? Did the install finish and when you go to run the program it crashes?

Yes, install finished and then upon loading it crashes (I reinstalled and tried to run the CG3d performance test and it crashed after going through high/medium/low settings). Now it opens with the Rapsodo logo, tries to load and then crashes.

I ran the windows diagnostic/compatibility check and that's when I got the message saying it requires like ~1503 mb of active memory.

From what I understand the HP Pavilion is a proprietary system, so it is the way it allocates the ram for use throughout the system that is causing your problem. It has 8 mb of ram but not just for the use of the programs it divides it up for video and everything else.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean, but I'm confused because TGC runs fine and requires 4gbs of ram

I don't deal with HP and it has been sometime since I worked on one, but I had someone bring one to me to repair. And from what I could find out on it the main ram was used for the video card as well as in other components and the HP motherboard allocated the way it was used, so somethings would run well while others would lock up due to the way the memory was divided out for use by the system for different programs.

Forgive me if this is 'duh' obvious, but just to be on the safe side I wanted to check... Have you completely shutdown the PC and then powered it back up since the installation? It seems lame, but so often weird problems get sorted out this way...

I believe I have, but will try it this just in case. Thanks!

This is a weird one as your PC is more than capable of running creative golf. Few things I would try , firstly try right clicking on the CG demo icon and then choose to run as administrator I have in my experience seen weird issues with permissions that can cause a program to act strangely. If that makes no difference right click the icon for the CG demo and click properties, find the name of the executable it's running(will be in the target field) and then check in the Nvidia control panel that it's using the GeForce card not the integrated Intel GPU. The Intel GPU is capable of running CG but it's sharing memory with your onboard RAM so ruling it out is worth a shot.

No problem, forgot there is a menu shortcut to select graphics processor if you right click on the desktop icon. Should be an option "Run with Graphics Processor" and you can select the Nvidia high performance option. If the menu shortcut is not present then you can use the Nvidia control panel as I previously mentioned.

Run as admin didn't work. Couldn't get the Run with Graphics Processor shortcut to show up, but I did add the .exe file in the Nvidia Control Panel. Still didn't work. I restarted a few times and tried reinstalling again with no luck. Ended up purchasing the Steam version of JNPG out of frustration and really enjoyed it. Might just chalk up CG3D as a loss and move on for now...

Thanks to those who chimed in
