  • Is this the best for $1K right now?

Well apparently a 7-year old Home Theater PC, while just fine to run the Skytrak software, is woefully inadequate to run E6, which in turn means its not going to run TGC. Is the Lenovo Legion Y7000 Laptop the best budget Laptop money can buy at $1K or less?

    Specs:
    CPU: i7 2.2 ghz
    GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

I was thinking maybe I could just buy a new processor/ and GPU for my computer, but I think my Motherboard architecture is too old and might not accept the card or limit me with what processor I can use. Micro-ATX case and a 500gb SSD makes for a fast start-up. My current setup is onboard video with lga1155 chipset (Ivy Bridge Intel circa 2012)

Can't tell you if that's a good price for that laptop - I'll generally check prices against what one can find on newegg.com.

but neither TGC nor E6 1.6 need that much processor so you could save yourself some money if you want. I'm running both perfectly fine with just a Ryzen 3 1600x (desktop cpu) along with the GTX1060 graphics card. Well, to clarify I'm running the console/PC game version of TGC2019, not the sim version, but I don't think that makes a difference.

And yes, to upgrade the CPU on the desktop would require a new motherboard and likely new memory and graphics card as well. So you're going to be better off just getting (or building your own) new system.

Rather than buying a $1k laptop or trying to upgrade pieces of your existing desktop, have you considered the option of simply building a new desktop? I've priced out some parts for a solid build and came out around $900. That was assuming an 8th gen i5 processor and buying a GTX 1060 6GB B-stock (refurb with warranty) from EVGA.

So my computer has no GPU. Technically I could put a pci 2 or 3 gpu in the pci express 16 slot and it should run it. They are compatible. The CPU technically meets the minimum requirements of an i3 2ghz or greater. It should work no?

I see at a best buy near me they have an RX 580 GTS 8GB Card for $219 and a That technically should work just fine.

Couldn't hurt to give it a try. Although realize that many of the higher end GPU's need a particular lead from the powder supply in addition to just plugging it into the motherboard. You might want to make sure your particular PS has the necessary open lead.

If u want or need a laptop the Lenovo referenced above appears to be a great deal. I bought in Jan 2018, a Lenovo legion y720 for $1070. Yours above I think is the current model of mine. Mine had basically same specs as yours except only a 256gb SSD. This with 1TB hard drive is better. Same processor I7. The 1060 6gb runs TGC and alpha 19 at max without a hiccup. I ahave owned many PC's over the years, first was a HP touchscreen 150 back in about 1980. This is the best PC so far I have ever had.

Stuart totally correct! I didnt go and buy it yesterday. Work got in the way. I will need to upgrade the power supply as the nominal rating for a rx580 is 450w!! I'll upgrade to a 750w power supply. Might not be able to do this till tomorrow though. I'm slammed with work and commitments at home.
