  • Tower stopped working... any solutions?

    Hey all,

my tower just stopped working after trying to boot up for the first time in in a little over a week. I had it “turned off”, but the “hard switch” button on the back was in the on position. Maybe I fried it?!

It turns on, the fans start up, the GTX card lights up, and maybe 2 seconds later it all shuts down. About 2 seconds it tries to start up again, the lights flash, the fans get power, then it shuts down again.

I unplugged, tried a different outlet, removed and reinstalled the ram. Unplugged and replugged a couple random things.

Before I send it to a local computer repair place, curious if anyone has experienced this?

any additional info you need help diag can be provided.

    Thanks

You could also try reset cmos. Unplug power to tower then take a small flat head screwdriver and pop the little round battery out cr2032 put it back in and try to start it.

        Whoops see comment below.

Also, just reset the cr2032 and nothing changed :/

No beeps, just the sound of the fan. It’s like it’s trying to start up. Just a moment ago, it turned on for 2 seconds and shut down. 2 seconds later it turned on (by itself) and shuts down a second later, then it did it again for a 3rd time.

I hear all the internals going off like it’s getting ready to boot up then it crashes.

The weird part is that I can’t turn it back on without unplugging and plugging back in.

Ill check on the battery and report back.

Make and model of computer or MB? Does it have a MB speaker - many don't and that would be needed to hear any of the BIOS beep codes.

No speakers, but I can hook some up to it and listen for it.

Not sure what MB would mean and it's a custom computer I purchased in January so don't have make and model, only details of the internal elements.

I'll report back after getting some speakers hooked up to it. Would ear buds work? Not sure if I have true computer speakers.

MB = Mother Board - manufacturer is needed to interpret any startup error 'beep' codes. Also a MB speaker is different from just plugging in speakers to the sound chipset that the operating system used to put out sound. So I wouldn't bother and just dropping it off at a qualified repair shop is your best course of action.

Sounds to me like an internal issue.
if you have bought it in January i’d check for warranty

Well, I bought it in January. Might be about 3-4 years old. It does sound internal - just dropped it off at the local repair shop.

For anyone curious, the repair guys stated it was a software issue. Windows became corrupt, maybe during an update or during an improper shut down. Hard drive tested good.

Sounds like it's all is well at the moment.
