  • Computer for TGC 2019 or E6

    Hi Everyone,

I have a Skytrak and was looking to get simulation software for it. My buddy has TGC and I was looking at the TGC/TGC 2019 plan or the E6. I have a net and a mat but I am looking at two different computers to run it. I purchased both but one is going back. The two computers are listed below. I would eventually like to get a screen and projector to run the software in 4k so I am taking that into consideration for which to keep. I think the desktop is the way to go. It seems the graphics card is good enough in the laptop but is great in the desktop I am just not sure about the processor. If someone could tell me which one is best or if the laptop would be fine and desktop is overkill, I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance for any help.

So in looking at your selected computers, neither are going to run the software in 4K. The Desktop will be fine for 1080P, but I'd still like to see a bit more investment in the GPU side of that Desktop. The real question is what do you have budget to spend at? Because a "True 4K" projector is at minimum $5K. All other cheaper projectors that advertise 4k is using some sort of pixel shift technology that mimics 4K. I'm not trying to speak down on this. This is just what it is. Also to actually run in 4K there was a thread here back a while ago where someone said they had a RTX-2080 as their GPU and it was hovering around 40fps or so... No stellar performance honestly for a GPU that costs upwards of $650 by itself.

CPU doesnt matter too much when it comes to most gaming. the i5 in the desktop is fine, just as a Ryzen 5 would be just fine as well. TGC2019 is not a CPU bound simulator, nor is E6. The GPU does all the heavy lifting.

Come back with a basic budget and think about if 4K is a must. If it is, we are talking about a computer that is going to likely be over the $1800 mark at the minimum.

Thank you for the help. I didn't realize that 4k projectors were that much, I will check out some projectors on the forum to see which one I should get. I will most likely be running 1080p given this information. I still need to do some more research on e6 vs tgc to choose that software. So it sounds like both computers will work. Will I see any benefit in the desktop over laptop given it costs $135 more? The laptop would be more convenient in case I need to move it around but I would like to get the best performing option given these two. Thanks again for the help.

That Desktop is a really good deal given that it has a 1660ti in it. A desktop also offers the ability to upgrade certain components. I'm unsure of the motherboard on that desktop, but if the powersupply has enough headroom, you could in the future upgrade the processor and GPU. Same goes for the RAM.

Not to hijack here but I am lost with all this reading. I came across this deal Wanting something to handle strictly TGC in 1080p no 4k. Will this suffice ?

I just replied to your other thread on this, I would be very suprised if that was not a scam. As well as what I mentioned in the other thread look at the spec and compare it to similar laptops on well known sites. You won't even get close to that price which should send alarm bells ringing, the GPU alone must be close to the price they are advertising it at.
