  • IDS Camera and Kinovea

    All --

Hoping some of the video experts can help me here. Recently bought an IDS3140 camera -- have installed the uEye software and as part of that DirectShow got installed. The camera is sending images to the computer, as I can see them using the uEye control panel. Kinovea seems to be able to see the camera, but when I select it all I get is a black screen. I'm certainly no expert in this space -- is there something I need to setup / specially configure?

    Thanks
    Matt

The good 'ol IDS camera... pain in the a$$!! Go to the main camera folder in program files and find the configuration file. This is from years ago so I am struggling to recall exactly how I fixed the same problem, but it has to do with config file that Kinovea uses vs uEye - I thik I copied the settings from uEYe to Kinovea to get it to work. Sorry this is not more detailed but hope it gets you going in the right direction.

      Hi Matt,

since about one year during my SIM-build I did a lot of evaluation of Kinovea and different cameras. Don't waste your time on previous Kinovea builds and go directly to the new beta-version 0.9.1. Joan has just released it. It works pretty stable and has a lot of new features that are very interesting for the golf community.

Regarding installation I recommend to install the ZIP-version to a dedicated directory, i.e. d:\Kinovea0901. If new versions are released, you could simply use a new directory for testing.

The DirectShow - filters only matter if you are using USB2.0 cameras. It is the common interface of i.e. Webcams to Windows. However, performance is very limited.
The USB2.0 cameras are mentioned in different threads at the forum.

However, installation of IDS or Balser - cameras is quite different and a little bit more demanding. But it will give you real power of high speed video acquisition.
See one of the next threads. I will try to explain it in detail.

      Reiner
