Working on the final stages of my optishot simulator setup. I have made two hitting surfaces, one for lefties and one for righties. I have 1 friend that will be playing occasionally and he's a lefty. I will be simply moving the optishot sensor pad for the time being when he is playing. My question pertains to usb connectivity. I would like to run usb cables under the stance mat area and simply unplug the sensor pad from right handed hitting position to left when the need arises. Can I simply utilize a usb y cable up at my laptop and leave connected. Will the computer recognize the sensor pad when its removed from the one cable and plugged in to the other? Somewhat new to these unusual connection setups. Any help you can share is appreciated!

Optishot USB question

Madspeed, I also have two OptiShots setup for a lefty and a right. I couldn't put one directly in the middle for both lefty/righty to use because it would be too close of hitting the wall. So I have each of them offset to eliminate any space concerns. To answer your question about the USB, you could do what you were suggesting of disconnecting one and connecting the other. Basically you cannot have two OptiShot sensor pads plugged in at the same time otherwise the software won't read them correctly. So the software can only use one sensor pad at a time. What I have and think is your best solution, is get a USB A/B selector like at this link:
This allows me to select which sensor pad I want connected and turned on. Works great. Check out the pics attached. Also recommend the thick monster tee turf for AllTurfMats.com
TIP: Also purchase the A/B selector switch from that link to make sure you get the right kind. I searched all over ebay and local places. All the USB switches I found were the wrong kind that was the opposite, meaning they allow one USB input and then Outputs to two computers. So be careful which one you get. Recommend the one in that link. Works great in my setup!5 Photos

Madspeed, I also am running Windows 7. I did not have to install any special driver for this. It should act similar to a USB extension, meaning your Optishot plugs into this A/B Switch and then the output goes to your computer in a USB connection. All the A/B switch does is lets you select which USB connection you want to allow to output.
Break this down in small steps to help pin point where the disconnect is happening.
Make sure you have Optishot software running first.
First plug OptiShot (A) sensor pad to your computer. Verify it auto detects then unplug.
Plug OptiShot (B) sensor pad to your computer. Verify it auto detects then unplug.
Plug OptiShot (A) into the A/B Selector Switch Box. Plug the Output to the SAME USB input on your computer that worked before. Click the A button wait a minute then try the B button wait a minute. Hopefully you get the green light on your OptiShot.
Try the above with your Optishot (B) and hopefully it connects and shows green light on sensor pad.
After trying all this and still no results. I recommend plugging into a different USB input on your computer. I have had this happen with many different USB devices. So changing the input makes the computer initialize and install the USB device (as new device). Try multiple USB inputs and hopefully you get the green light.
If you are using a long USB cable I recommend a USB Repeater cable that helps boost the USB signal.
Worst case scenario is the USB A/B Switch Box is bad.
- Try different USB cables.
- Try to connect a different device through the A/B Switch Box to verify that it isn't Optishot sensor pad not detecting and see if something else will connect through it.
Bottom line. It should auto connect and work pretty simple. Maybe return and try a different switch box.
Good Luck!
