Is a monitor necessary?

Pulled the trigger on a new computer last night. It does not come with a monitor, just the tower.

Is it necessary to have a monitor? Can I just hook up the projector to the tower via HDMI and use the impact screen as my monitor?

Cool, thanks. So far I've used an ipad and a laptop so I haven't needed a separate monitor yet. It seems like all the photos I see of builds have monitors so I didn't know if people went without or not. I was wondering if it might just be a pain in the butt or not to not have one. I might give it a try and see how I like it.
