  • TGC remote play possible?

I'm starting to put together a Skytrak simulator and have a question I can't seem to find a great answer to. I have a decent gaming desktop in my office @ home that I know is capable of running TGC 2019. Its not going to be possible to run cables to my simulator set up, and was trying to find out if anyone has tried running remote play from a laptop that wouldn't be able to run the game on its own. I have a solid mesh wifi setup, and even have an extra satellite that I could use to provide an Ethernet connection to the laptop in the garage. Has anyone tried something similar to this and how did it work out?

My gut feeling is that I will be building another PC to run the simulator, but would love to utilize my current PC if its possible to get a quality experience with it. Any input on this is appreciated, thanks.

Its a good question and I'm not sure of the answer. But the laptop still has to display the graphics. So although the graphics are technically running on the gamer, they still have to be rendered on the laptop.

I don't know how far away the gaming computer is, but if you had a wireless keyboard and mouse and a projector with wireless capabilities they might all be able to communicate with the gamer that way (and therefore no need for the laptop?). That's only my best guess.

I am in the same position as yourself where I have a powerful gaming PC in my office and I am creating a simulator in the garage and I have been doing some research and I am doing the following.

Steam software allows you to "Remote Play" games from 1 PC to another across Wifi or Ethernet and you can also add custom games that are not in your steam library.

Steam released a small box called "Steam Link" which allows you to stream you games onto so you dont need another PC. They dont make these anymore however I got one from ebay for £30.

You can also stream your USB ports from the Steam Link or 2nd less powerful PC to your main PC using an app called "VirtualHere" and you can plug in your USB wireless keyboard (I got the logitech K400 plus media keyboard) and/or gamepad.

I own a Skytrak and R-Motion and I have tested this theory by streaming TGC from the R-Motion app, adding it to steam, streaming my USB ports i.e plugging in the R-Motion dongle in my main PC and then running the actual game from my main PC to my surface pro in the garage via WiFi and it works flawlessly.

The game will appear on your main PC monitor and then will stream itself to your less powerful PC using the main PC's hardware to play the game and the 2nd PC or Steam Link just mirrors it and HDMI out into the projector.

You could just get a less powerful PC or laptop and it would work just the same.

I did all this because I didnt want to have to build another gaming PC just for the garage and it has saved me a fortune.

      I hope this helps.

Exactly the answer I was looking for. I just wanted to make sure it was possible with TGC software in steam. I use steam link app in the house already with a raspberry pi and it works well enough. I figure worst case scenario, I try the steam remote play using the laptop and if the quality suffers then I'll look in to building a new rig. Thanks for the reply!
