  • Cyberpower PC w/ Ryder 7/AMD RX 580 GPU...ok for Skytrak + E6 Connect??

Just picked up a used mint condition Cyberpower PC with Ryzen 7, AMD RX 580, 16GB RAM from BestBuy for $800. Computer seems to be working great aside from the WiFi chip being useless, I’ve read the critiques of the standard power supply from them being weak which I assume I have.

I bought the PC to SOLELY run my Skytrak with E6 connect. I know the system requirements state GTX 1070 or equivalent GPU. Will the set up as I currently have it run E6 Connect for the Skytrak at 4K resolution fine? 2K? 1080p? Would appreciate some annecdotal feedback from those running technically suboptimal PC setups and their experience. I don’t want to spend $500+ more for a GPU just because I didn’t want to run E6 on my iPad Pro. I haven’t installed E6 yet though however and I have a 15 day return policy. My Skytrak arrives on Monday and I already purchased my E6 Connect expanded subscription. Appreciate any feedback in advance. Thanks.

I think you'll be fine at 1080p. 4K at the highest settings is tough for even the best GPU's out there right now. My brother has a GTX 1060 which is pretty similar to the RX 580 and it runs TGC 2019 fine at 1080p with the settings pretty high. I recently built a pc with an RTX 2070 and it runs TGC 2019 at the highest settings really smooth up to 1440p but starts to struggle when I bump it up to 4K. I'm not sure about E6 connect but I imagine it's not too far off. The good news is unless you have a 4K projector you should be fine at 1080p.

Thanks for the detailed reply! Some good info I didn’t know. I assumed a 2070 would crush it in 4K maxed out.

Not sure the settings but just ran the E6 demo and did a flyover in whatever the default settings are and it performed flawlessly, graphics looked good, but this was on an old 720p (I think, maybe 1080p) Samsung TV. I don’t have a 4K projector yet but that and one of Craig’s high quality impact screens are the last two things on my build list. I’ll upgrade the graphics card if necessary. Now I need to figure out how to adjust the settings to push the graphics card to see how it reacts for flyovers with the demo to get a better idea. I have a new 4K SUHD Samsung over here I can test it out on, just need to figure the settings part out and cross my fingers.

What’s the performance drop you see when you push it and how severe is it? I’d definitely be satisfied with 1440 and would probably be fine with 1080p as well, but I’d obviously love to get away with the most I can with the RX580 if possible. Otherwise a new GPU is in my future as well, which I believe also means a new PSU if necessary.

It gets choppy at 4k to the point I wouldn't want to play, probably around 30fps max, not good. At 1440 I'm up around 60fps. The real problem would be finding a 4k projector anyway. Unless price isn't a factor there aren't too many, if any, out there that would work for a sim at even around $2K. If you don't need a short throw that helps but they're still pretty expensive, at which point might as well cough up the dough for a top end gpu. I think there's also the issue of how much benefit you'll see projecting onto an impact screen. Although good, they're nowhere near the image quality of nice projection screens.

That’s great feedback. I guess I’ll have to see if the RX580 can even handle 1440 smoothly. I’d be willing to splurge on a projector but given your point about the impact screen, I’d be more than content running at 1440 or 1080 and might be better served just picking up a quality 1080p/1440 projector and calling it good running smoothly at 1080p. Thanks again!
