  • Computer storage in a garage?

I'm building a simulator in a (soon to be finished) garage. I'm trying to figure out what folks do in terms of storage of their computer. It's a fairly high end gaming machine, seems like the two considerations are proper ventilation and dust, which seem in conflict.

    Thoughts?

Mine just sits in my garage open air on a shelf... Every 3 months I check the dust filters and blow them out, other than that it stays in there through the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter. Mine is also fairly highly spec'd.

Looking forward to responses on this post as I am facing same question regarding my garage. Thinking of setting up my gaming laptop as a desktop in a secure cabinet with ventilation and using wireless keyboard/mouse.

I've had my setup (computer, projector, monitor, cameras...etc.) in our garage year round for a couple of years now without any issues (the projector has actually be out there for 3 or 4 years). I've got an inexpensive computer cart with an open air shelf on the bottom of it that the computer sits on (its a moderate gaming computer (Asus Rog)). We live in Ohio, so we see the entire range of temperatures and our garage is not climate controlled. Initially I was also concerned about the colder temperatures with both the computer and projector, but haven't had any issues so far...I do bring my GC2 inside when we're done...Hope that helps some...Good luck!

I've found that my projector is the one area where I'm a little worried. I'm seeing a ton of dust collecting on the intake there.

I have a garage setup and I use my garage for woodworking / etc. as well as the golf simulator and parking a car in there (i can only get one in w/ all the tools) and it's a two car garage. I cut out some cardboard to cover all possible entry points for dust and keep it covered when not in use. When it's in use i pull that off and i'm good to go. I've cleaned it out maybe twice. I run the simulator year round.

My garage gets similar use to brob2k1 above. I do a ton of woodworking.. sawdust everywhere. I dont cover anything and just use my shop vac to clean up really good every time. My projector is ceiling mounted so I rarely get up there to clean it. My PC/Laptop lives out there as well as one of my WiFi mesh extenders and dont forget the beer fridge When it comes to temperatures and electronics.. they love the cold so no worries there.. the summers here in Texas are hot enough to melt the industrial strength adhesive from the Velcro that was holding my impact screen but that is nothing to the 180+ Celsius (370F) that it takes to get the solder ready to melt (motherboards for electronics) .. I would be more worried about the dust build up so just get a can of air spray and hit them really good once or twice a year unless you have your own air compressor then just use it
