  • Lenovo PC for TGC19 & Skytrak ?

    Hi everyone,

I've tried to read up as much as I can about what specs to look for in a computer to run TGC2019 w/Skytrak, and I found these options with discounts from Lenovo. I considered building myself, and still am, but in order to get my price below these prices I believe I'd have to get some used components. I'd prefer to buy new if the price is right.

Can anyone comment on how well either of these computers would run TGC19 w/Skytrak? I'm worried about making the wrong choice in PC and/or missing out on this deal they have if the computer is worth the price.

I only plan on using this computer for TGC2019 and maybe a future camera for swing video playback.

    Projector: BenQ TH761ST
Projector Screen Dimensions (may matter for GPU selection?): 8'x8'

I'm assuming you've seen the list of specs for TGC2019 provided on the Skytrak website. It can be easy to miss, so here it is in case you haven't seen it:

    System Requirements

    Minimum:

    OS: Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8 64 bit, Windows 10 64 bit
Processor: Intel Core i5-760 @ 2.80GHz or equivalent
    Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVidia GTX 670 or equivalent
    DirectX: Version 11
    Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 30 GB available space
    Sound Card: DirectX 11 compatible

    Recommended:

    OS: Windows 10 64Bit
Processor: Intel Core i7 @ 3.20GHz or equivalent
    Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVidia GTX 1060 (or better), for 4K NVidia GTX 1080 (or better)
    DirectX: Version 11
    Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 30 GB available space
    Sound Card: DirectX 11 compatible

Basically, just match up these specs with whatever you're looking to buy. Graphics cards can be confusing, but a Google search can lead you to some websites with info about how various graphics cards stack up against others.

I bought a new Lenovo for $900 back in the spring and it runs TGC19 great. The specs are:

Lenovo 90HT0004US Desktop Computer - Core i7 i7 8700 16 GB RAM 16 GB Optane Memory 2 TB HDD Black Windows 10 Home 64 bit NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060

3on3putt, thanks for the reply. Yup, I've seen those requirements and that led me to these two options. Thanks for sharing your Lenovo experience, that gives me hope that one of these will work great for me.

I guess the question should be, given that both of these PCs would work.... would you take....

1- i5 CPU, 16 gb ram, and RTX 2060, or
      2- i7 CPU, 8 gb ram, and GTX 1660.

Option 1 seems to be a CPU sacrifice for better GPU and RAM, Option 2 matches the "Recommended" requirements pretty closely but comes up a little short on CPU GHz.

A classic case of paralysis by analysis...

Update: Read through more posts and got the idea that GPU should be maximized as opposed to maximizing the CPU, and some thought 16gb ram was the way to go, so I went with the $900 option above. Thanks again for the input, 3on3putt.

That should do you well. That graphics card is significantly better than the one recommended by Skytrak. You should have no issues there.

I was looking at the exact same options. I purchased the one on the right. However, after reading this, many other evaluations and getting Foresight’s input, I returned it. Everything I’ve seen says to prioritize the graphics card and ram vs. CPU. So, I returned the i7 and ordered the i5.

Jkaser - I think you made a great choice! After my order I kept digging for confirmation that the i5 10400F CPU with RTX 2060 GPU was the better of the two options. I found this website https://pc-builds.com/calculator/ where you can pair a CPU, GPU, and RAM at full output to see which component would limit the overall system. The results (links below for 1080P display) shows that the i5 processor would max out the performance of the RTX 2060 to the point where the GPU is a 1.95% bottleneck to the system. The i7 would outperform the GTX 1660s to the point where the GPU is a 7.4% bottleneck to the system. Therefore, the i7 is more computing power than the 1660s can keep up with, and the i5/RTX 2060 combo is matched very well and fully utilizes the better graphics that the RTX 2060 offers. I received my computer in the mail yesterday and downloaded TGC 2019 last night. Still working on my build and can't wait to see what the image is like on an 8'x8' screen!

          i7, GTX 1660s, 8 gb RAM: https://pc-builds.com/calculator/Cor...0Yr155lu/8/100

Awesome, thanks pcgolfer! You can also see how the i5 combo is better by checking the 4K. It shows it great and the i7 combo says the graphics card is too weak.

Will the NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX™ 2060 6GB support 4K? Recommended is a GTX 1080, but I get confused on the numbering system that is used. I thought the last 2 numbers were the most important.
