  • Anti-virus software?

Hi guys, I'm a little confused regarding anti-virus software as I approach the completion of my sim build. I purchased a desktop from CyberPower that has no AV software and it's running Windows 11. I see a lot of posts with issues being resolved by removing AV software and/or blocking firewalls. I also see some YouTube instructional videos where there is none used but they also state it is a closed system with no web browsing. The simple question is what should I be doing? I don't plan or want it to be a closed system, what is the recommendation? Thanks.

I use both firewall and AV software on my Sim PC. That said, when installing any updates or initial sim software installation I temporarily disable the AV and FW during the installation and re-enable directly afterwards. YMMV depending on which software suite you end up with but mine fights with FSX on any update.

The issue of course is that most systems do in fact require (some - even if only to validate licenses on a periodic basis) access to the internet so IMO not having any protection is just asking for trouble. I am not aware of any truly stand-alone isolated software but I am sure it exists.

Thanks, I thought running without any seemed awfully reckless so that's good to hear. Is there a consensus (I'm sure there's not) of which AV software works best with these systems or are they all about the same?

Windows already comes with anti virus software built in for free. It is updated periodically. If you are just using the computer for simulation and associated updates the standard 'windows anti virus is more then sufficient.

If you are using the computer for a lot of web surfing, especially to off the wall sites, then an anti virus program may be required as they do frequent updates to catch new threats immediately..

All third party anti virus programs will interfere with something sooner or later. when updating various other programs.
