Foresight with an AMD chip

Hey,

Does anyone run Foresight software with an AMD chip? I recently bought a GC3 however am currently running a computer with an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X and a Zotac GeForce RTX 3090ti GPU. Am really hoping I don't need to make any changes. Cross posted under the Foresight group.

I had no problem playing Play when I had my free trial. Using AMD once I paid for the gold subscription it no longer worked. They said it was my AMD system. Well that was full of crap. I just built an Intel i7 system and still can’t play it. Wtf

AMD processors, as you have likely seen, are generally not recommended with Foresight sports. That said, I have not seen someone running a recent chip have issues - you should be OK here.

It really the AMD video cards which seem to cause the issues and I would stay away at all costs there. Your RTX 3090Ti should be more than enough and again gtg.

Following along. I bought a gaming laptop to set my sim up bc my desktop is AMD cpu but nvidia gfx. Never bothered to try since Foresight have been explicit on their site and support queries that it is intel only. Shame bc my desktop wallops this laptop, but it’s still been very acceptable.

I am running fsx play on AMD 7000 series cpu now, one system crash in a week, otherwise 100% fine. Crash may have been ea sports, that app is a mess.

I have now run FSX Play, FSX2020 with no issues. Let it auto update so whatever is current is working. Using Bushnell Launch Pro. I will update when I am in the shop next what version I am running.

PC is a custom build AMD Ryzen 5 7600 with a GTX4070 TI graphics card. No glitches in the picture at 4K full graphics, always running youtube or something on another screen at 1080p. Total of about $1600 in the PC running windows 11. Also had 32GB of ram, not because you need it but because the sticks of DDR5 where only really sold in pairs of 16x2. 1tb SSD, 750W power supply. Air cooled, didn't need any crazy cooling solutions.

No more crashes so far, only issue is FSX likes to drop the driving range every other day. Some days its there, others it isn't. All courses work, just driving range is missing. Weird.

I’ll be curious if gspro has any issues, too , with the amd cpu/nvidia gpu setup. I have a gaming rig that would replace my gaming laptop nicely.

I have some experience to share. I have a BLP.
Here are my major PC components:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3.8 GHz 8 core
16GB Ram DDR4 3200 MHz expandable to 64GB (2 slots)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
750 watt power supply

1 GB internet down and up

I use GSPro for sim and practice and FSX2020 for real time virtual lessons.

When using GSPro I run Kinovea with 2 cameras and play remotely through Discord. No issues at all. CPU barely gets above 50% and the video card varies between 50%-100%, depending on the course being played. I’m not running 4K.

FSX2020 is a different story. When I open the software, before even connecting to the BLP, the CPU hits 100% instantly and stays there. The software is set to run through the video card not the on board graphics.

For lessons, I run the cameras through FSX and connect over Zoom. FSX will run but the cameras shut down frequently and need to be reconnected. The video shared through zoom lags. Overall, it’s not a great experience.

GSPro runs flawlessly but FSX2020 just eats the CPU resources. This leads me to think there’s something to the AMD guidance. But I’ve heard from others they use FSX2020 with zoom without issues.

if I could find a better sim software for lessons that incorporated video, I’d ditch FSX2020 in a second.

Now using GSPro on my system for a month, no issues at all. Much better software experience then FSX Play.
