  • Simulator pc build

Thought I would share what I am building with pricing so others can mimic if they want. Have a Bushnell launch pro.

    Cpu - AMD Ryzen 5 7600
    MSI b650 motherboard am5
    Corsair vengeance 32gb ddr5 ram
    Crucial p3 plus 1tb ssd
    PNY 4070 ti
    Corsair 4000d case
    750 watt evga powersupply
    Thermalight assassin cpu cooler
    Couple noctua fans
    Windows 11 home license

    Grand total $1657

You can get used 3080 for around 500-600 dollars which would save you 200-300 dollars. I don't trust used electronics much so went new. If you watch Newegg close you can get some crazy motherboard cpu deals. Thought I would post so you can see diy cost compared to buying pre built. There are no corners cut on this, should be cool and fast. Also pc magazine sells WI dows license for crazy cheap.

So the parts are in and assembled. With a little time I have completed some benchmarks to get a feel for how fast this is compared to my Eluktronics Core I7 9750K and 2060 mobile laptop. This laptop uses more power then most and the 2060 runs with most 2070 laptop GPU.

    Simple 3dmark scores for the laptop were: GPU - 6,692 CPU - 5,740 Final Score - 6,529
For the new Desktop system: GPU 22,961 CPU - 9,684 - Final Score - 19,044.

During benchmarking my laptop runs at around 85+ C so it is really cooking, desktop was no more than 60C with a good $45 air cooler, no liquid, no aio. The desktop is quite enough I would say you cannot hear it without really trying, laptop is noisy as heck trying to keep that cool and is sitting on a cooling pad.

So from a 2060 mobile to a 4070 desktop the system is ~3.5 times faster. I am going to try and run FSX Play to begin with, then move to GS Pro later. This should handle both at 4K I hope.

Hope this information helps to see the difference in systems. I have FSX Play and FSX 2020 loaded on both systems, if my enclosure every shows up I will run both and post some frate rate differences between the two. Will work with GS pro a month or so later when my free Play gold expires.

Happy to answer questions on PC builds as well, I have been doing this since I was a kid (23 years ago) and enjoy it as sort of a hobby. Prices put me out of it for the last 3-4 years and into some laptops, but did a bit of research and can help if you need it.

hamviper what are your thoughts on the 4070ti vs 3090 in relation to the golf simulator software options in 4k? A couple reviews say the 4070ti could be a little behind the 3090 on some games in 4k. There's a big difference in ram and I'm wondering if that will play a role in golf simulator software at 4k vs traditional gaming games that seem to be much better optimized and designed. I started with a 3060ti but returned it and went with a 4070ti due to the deal i got on it at microcenter and built a system similar to yours except I went with intel due to foresight requirements since I have that software as well. 15-12600K, Asus Tuf Z690 Plus WF mobo, 2tb MVNE, 32GB ram, 750 psu and the Asus Tuf RTX 4070ti.

From what I saw and read the two cards are comparable, but the 4070 has dlss3 and used a lot less power to get the performance. I believe for golf simulation either is fine and the 4070 is a lot cheaper then a 3090. I am not sure 60 fps is needed on something as slow moving as a simulator and a lot of projectors don't show much more fps then that. All this added up to 4070 being the better cost/performance card so that's the way I went. Took a small risk on the AMD cpu, but saw several people running the software fine so went for it. I think AMD gpu is bad, cpu doesn't seem to matter much.
