Add external video card to i7 laptop?

I was given a laptop with an i7 chip. However, the graphics card does not meet the minimum standards. Just curious if it would be worth it (cost effective).

Is it possible to add a good external video card? Or is it worth it to replace the existing video card?

I know that laptops are not the standard. I am just trying to weigh my options.

I can't give you an answer, as I went the tower build direction. Hopefully someone else may chime in. If you got the laptop for free, and buy a GPU and PSU that you would use anyway in a tower build, not that much cost to give it a try. In fact, with Amazon Prime, you could try and then return if it doesn't work out...
