I upgraded my GTX 680 to the GTX 970 and was hoping that I could max all settings. This is not the case. I still have to have high quality tree count and tree distance set at about 1/3 of max. The game still looks fine at those settings but it looks fantastic when maxed out. With all settings at max, my FPS drops as low at 15 FPS during the drive. I would be interested in what machine can play TGC with everything turned on and set to maximum.

Is anyone running GTX 970's in SLI?

This is what I'm running and is absolutely flawless maxed out. Zero lag I mean zero. Everything is instantaneous. This is however the single only use for this pc is to run TGC.

Nice system. That is pretty much what I would build right now if I didn't have one. Download Fraps and let me know what FPS you are getting. I think that I would see a better return by adding another GTX 970 rather than changing my motherboard, cpu, and ram. I might try overclocking my video card a bit. Do you have the tree distance and tree count turned to max. Those two settings are what brings my system down to it's knees. But the game looks insanely great with those settings at max. If adding the second GTX 970 doesn't do it ( I really think it will) I can overclock my i7 2600k to about 3.9GHz but I will need a bigger cooler.

I thought I read that TGC does not support sli. Might want to check first before going through the extra cost.

Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. Once you go past 1/3 of max, the game looks pretty good. If you have to run those two settings on the minimum settings, the trees will look like they are from minecraft. The trees look fantastic at max settings. Is it worth the money? I am struggling with this question. I have my settings on high, detail 5, everything turned on, Max quality tree count 3500, max tree distance 600. 40FPS average. Are you playing on a projection screen, tv, or computer screen? My impact screen is 13x9 so every bit of detail helps.

I remember hearing this a while back so I googled and found this thread about making SLI work in TGC. I don't have two video cards so I have not tried it.
Hey guys, just thought I'd share some good news. I finally found some DX11 SLI bits that work beautifully with this game: 0x080000F5 For those unfamiliar with Nvidia Inspector, hit the wrench icon on the main screen, which will open an elevated settings menu. Select The Golf Club from the pulldown menu, and copy the above bits into the "SLI compatability bits (DX1x)" field. Hit "apply" and you're good to go. You should now have full gpu utilization on both cards.
keither, I also have a gtx680 and contemplated getting a 980. Curious what kind of jump in FPS you got going to a 970? I am currently at Detail 3 with 200 Trees at 300 distance. I use Magnolia 1st Tee as my reference and I get about 37-38FPS on it. Some courses get down in to the low 30's.

The 980 will give you about a 15-20% jump in FPS over the 970 and a 30-40% jump over the 680.
Here is a good chart to compare video cards. Note that some are benchmarked in SLI. Compare the cards on different games to get an idea of where your card stands compared to others. http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2...marks,186.html.
If your PSU and MB can handle two 970's...... it is a better choice than a single 980. Two 970's cost $120 more but you get a 50% increase in FPS over the single 980.

What resolution are you running? I'll be running 1920x1200 on my projector. My PC was going to have the 960 without any upgrade options. I decided to pay the extra for a 970 and will try and sell the 960. Becoming more and more happy I decided to do that.

Due to the size of my room, 1680x1050 works better for me.. It gives me a image that fills the whole screen, otherwise I have black bars at the top and bottom. The GTX 970 is a great choice. I am running an older 2nd generation i7. I will get better bang for my buck adding another GTX970 than change MB, CPU, and ram. I am looking at $800-900 Cnd to upgrade those 3 parts. Adding a second 970 will be a greater benefit for less than 1/2 of the upgrade cost of MB,CPU,Ram. Assuming that SLI will work. The GTX 970 scales incredibly well. Two 970's out perform The titan X which is an $1300 video card in most video games. http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2...080p,3675.html KSman..... good call on the 970, it's almost a 50% increase in FPS over the 960 in most games. All those years of reading tech sites, has finally become somewhat useful..... maybe a little.

Update, SLI is not supported and is a low priority for HB studios. I have put my second GTX 970 in my other computer. JS1010 I tried that link. It didn't work. From what I have read, it used to work before an update was issued. It seems that TGC for PC is a console port with little effort in making the game smoother or look better. TGC is a great game and I can highly recommend it. It feels more like real golf compared to E6. I would like to see HB put some effort into making the frame rate smoother especially when the ball is landing. It's not smooth even when you are reaching 50 FPS. It looks smooth when you are watching the ball, but the trees are not so smooth. I will keep my eyes open for SLI support.
