Software for live swing analysis?

I'd like to add a camera set-up to do live video analysis indoors in my hitting bay.

I have a newish laptop with a good graphics card, and I plan to add a USB 3.0 camera.

Just not sure about the camera specifics or which software to use. I don't want to buy $500+ professional software for coaches, that would just be overkill. But I'm not sure what other options are out there.

I'd love to hear from someone who's actually done this.

@daddio...it's still a paperweight . 18fps usb 2.0. Your phone camera would do a much better job capturing your swing...it does have a global shutter though.

I will put the system on a shelf and probably chuck it after 10 years........................

Just got an email from Swinguru. They've added high speed 2D to their "Pro" version. They bundle it with an IDS camera and lens. The price is $1215 for a one year subscription. I'm more than likely going this route. The cool part is you get the camera to keep, at about 1/2 the price you'd pay buying it separately (the 1 yr sub is $899 alone). I can always opt of their subscription model and use the camera later by purchasing MotionView, or something else. I'm not sure how accurate the software is; maybe someone else can chime in on that. I love that I can use the pro version with my GC2 and Boditrak, as well as a 3D and now high speed 2D camera. Pretty cool solution if it's precise. Ton of info provided, down to degrees and inches of every part of the swing.

I should add there is an option to purchase the software outright, but it's pricey.

I have the Swinguru system and use it with my GC2, it's very accurate and works well with the IDS camera. One great feature is auto body markers so no need to draw lines for key body parts. The upcoming version 3.37 will offer 8 position bio-feedback training

I have The all sport Motionview Elite setup with 2 cams. I really need two cams and this works. I haven't taken the time to get the software to work exactly how I wan it to, like auto record and auto play. I'd love some feedback if anyone has this setup and could give some pointers.

I still ill need to figure out cameras as I have a pseye cam and my Kinect cam from the swinguru setup I no longer use and I'd love some more detail but don't want to overspend. Maury those eBay cams posted. Anyone have two setup at the same time with success?

Didn't see this post earlier, sorry... I used the Myswinguru software for a while, but I found it worked for some things and was inaccurate for other things and didn't really work for me. I tried out the pro version a couple times and really really liked it, but the price is just plan silly. I would love to have it for a more reasonable price. I love that they added the high speed camera option as that was one of my own complaints to them when I tried it. I love how it integrates a lot of launch monitors, love he it shows the 3D and estimates balance and a lot of other things. If money were no object, I'd be all over it. I still think about it all the time.

I like motionview for analysis but disappointed in auto record.
Can only put on a timer but no auto record. V1 Golf much better for this function. Can use a mic that will truly auto record every swing.

Elite does auto-record. I'm messing with it now. It isn't very user friendly though. One problem I seem to have is that my crappy cams seem to feed in at different rates so that my ps3eye cam is like 2-3 seconds behind my Kinect cam.Sometimes I like it that way, but other times it would be nice if I could sync them and have them stay that way until I change it. I'm using the built in microphone of my Kinect cam for the audio trigger and it works. Just started messing with that though.

It seems that the manual needs to be updated so not sure I'm setting it up ideally or how I want to.

I used MotionView for years until my PC became obsolete and they were going to charge me again for the install. I now use V1's free edition, and it works just as well as MotionView for my needs. I use the Sony Eye camera. The frame rate isn't great, but it works well enough. I can see just about everything I need to see in the swing path. If I need more detailed view of impact, I use the iSwing app on my iPad. The frame rate on iSwing is much better than with Sony Eye.

Baller and Point. If you know how to use auto trigger on Motionview Elite please share. I have discussed with Allsports, reviewed instructions manual, and have played around with the software. The best Motionview can do is auto-trigger off the recording with the mic: 1) set the amount of time after the mic hears the ball sound that the recording will stop; 2) manually hit the record icon before each swing. With V1 golf I can play a whole round of golf and look at every swing afterwards since there is a true trigger on and off with their mic. Every swing will have a separate file.

You need to hit the "cams" button and go into the camera interface and then click the "Audo Trigger" or something button, select the microphone and while that is still up, make a noise, hit a club and it should show I think a red bar and show you that it recognized that sound as ok. If not, you'll need to change or move your mic to make it work.

You also need to make the setting on the main screen like "Autoseek" and stuff like that, but I'm still messing with it to make it how I want.

The problem I am having with it is that my cameras are not synced. I just ordered a cam off eBay that looks pretty good and I'll replace the slower one and see what happens.

The only thing I worry about is that they seam to max out at 100fps and that I will get shaft blur? Also wondering if anyone has an update on the best software. I'm not too worried about costs as it sounds like most (swing catalyst) are around $100/month?

I'm in the same boat as you (just got my GCQuad this weekend). Be careful to make sure the camera is compatible (lots of various interface standards out there). I tried this camera with FSX but could not get it to be recognized by the software: http://www.baslerweb.com/en/products.../aca1300-200uc

I can confirm that the USB 3.0 Color imagingsource.com DFK23U618 does work (around $380) with FSX (110-120 FPS on average). DO NOT get the DFK23G618 (note the G). This is the GigE version which I thought would be cool to try but found out that FSX would only see the lowest resolution (4 PFS) on that one.

Since it has a global shutter the shaft blur/bending isn't too bad. Any faster (i.e. 200 FPS) and it might be too dark at that speed anyway.

They have 500 fps USB 3.0 cameras. Hard to tell a price but it looks to be around 330 euros which should be around $300 USD. I have no idea if it would be compatible.

Be careful with anything over 200 fps indoors as you will need tons of light to see the image since the exposure rate of the camera will be so fast. The images will be very very dark.

EDIT: This one does look interesting. Good quality at 210 fps. Problem though is FSX is very picky with models/drivers (as I found out the hard way with a Basler Ace camera) so hard to know if it will work.

To set up Autorecord & Audio-Trigger, do the following:

1) Go to the Cams Toolbox, Click Audio Trigger, Select Microphone/Device, & Volume selector (if necessary). TEST: Hit a club, make a noise... You should see the green level go up and when it goes high enough, the red asterisk or box will show up telling you it has been triggered. If it does not go high enough, raise the volume slider! It seems to me that the volume slider level does not save, not really positive, so if it doesn't work the next time, check that.

LEFT SIDE CHECK-BOXES:
2) Click the checkbox yes for Autoplay
3) Click the checkbox yes for Autorecord
4) The rest unchecked (for me) - Continuous record is different and conflicts with Autorecord and will turn it off.

RIGHT SIDE SELECTORS:
5) Frame Selector to Play All
6) Final X seconds you want played of each video. I have mine set to Final 4.
7) Record Time THIS IS IMPORTANT! DO NOT SELECT ANYTHING OR NONE OF THE ABOVE WILL WORK! It should show "Record Time" or something is selected.
8) Microphone selector doesn't matter. That is for speaking into a lesson.

You are done. Tell it to record (I hit the PG DWN key and mine starts recording. It should stay in recording mode until you hit a ball and it recognizes it, then play the last 4 seconds of your swing for you. If it does not, go back and check the volume again on the Audio-Trigger section.

Let the video play and when it gets to the end, it will AUTOMATICALLY re-enter the recording ready phase. Hit when you're ready. It will keep looping as long as you want it to. If you want it to stop, you can hit the SPACEBAR, or you can stop playing the video, or you can uncheck Autorecord....

Once it works, BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR SETTINGS in a file and you can reload them again anytime.

***Also, If you plan on keeping videos, Make sure you click "Trim All Files" or you'll end up with many GB of excess recordings.

Kind of ironic, but now that I got my Motionview to work great and exactly how I wanted it, I got a longtime customer offer for Swinguru Pro that I couldn't pass up and jumped on it. I will have to get an IDS camera for it, but I needed a better camera anyway.

Not sure if I'll keep both or not, but I may have a lifetime Motionview Elite and Lifetime Wifi Video Grabber software to sell...
