  • Computer Build

Looking to get Perfect Golf this year and possibly purchase TGC next year. On sort of a budget. I know nothing about computers so if I am over building or under building please let me know and thank you so much for any advice.

    Computer: Refurb $500.00
    • Intel Core i7-4790 (Haswell) (84 W) 3.6 GHz
    • 12GB DDR3-1600 DIMM (1x8GB+1x4GB) RAM
    • 2TB 7200 RPM SATA 6G Hard Drive
    • MOBO: MSI Kaili2
    • Intel HD Graphics [DVI-I, HDMI]
    • SuperMulti DVD Burner
    • 7-in-1 multimedia card reader
    • Bang & Olufsen Audio
    • Top I/O: 2 USB 3.0 + 2 USB 2.0 headphone/microphone jack
    • Back I/O: 2 USB 2.0 + 2 USB 3.0
    • HP WLAN 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 MCard BT
    • 1000BASE-T Ethernet

    Upgrades:

    EVGA 500 B1 Bronze PSU - $55.00 EVGA GTX1060SC Graphics Card - $220.00

I think that's it unless you compter and sim experts can think of anything else. I feel like an idiot trying to figure this stuff out. Don't want this to be trial and error and would like to run high graphics at a decent fps.

    Thanks Again Everyone

the mismatched ddr3s I would replace to a matching pair, also 500 watt is on the border and going to a 600 to an 800 series is very small in price difference, make sure you have good air flow for unit but the other specs look playable good luck.

Whats the process of switching the ddr3's and cost. Thanks again for the fast reply.

I completely agree about the mismatched memory sticks. That could lead to issues. All other specs would be fine.

The GTX1060SC is a shorter graphics card so it should fit in the case with a bit or room to spare and only requires a 400w PSU to run so you should be more than fine with the 500w 500B1.

Thanks for the reply man. What would you do for memory sticks. I dont know anything about them and have no idea what would be capatible with that desktop.

If the memory is a problem then take out one of the memory sticks and keep it as spare. You don't need both and even the smaller 4gb is plenty for TGC. Make sure the motherboard will run with only one bank populated though.

No need to go crazy on the psu either. 500 watts is plenty. 300 watts would run but i agree it is marginal.

Alright sounds good, thanks everyone for all the replies. I didnt realize i could just take one memory stick out haha I am clueless with electronics ha. Yeah i think i am gonna stick with the 500w then.

frys has the thermaltake for like 20.00 that's a 600 watt its better power and probably less expensive then the 500 watt. and yes I agree that you can use one memory stick but try not to use two different sticks if using two best to be matching

I would recommend having 2 matching memory sticks. It's the best way to go.

What does it mean by sli ready on the thermaltake?

SLI / Crossfire ready means that can power 2 video cards. However if I was going to run 2 video cards at the same time I would be bumping this up to a 700-800 watt PSU at a minimum.

Nice find dude thanks. Is all this stuff compatible without buying any plus or modding the case?

Are you guys sure this is a good deal? $500 plus you still need a power supply and video card. For used and old technology. No idea of pricing in the US but how much would a new system cost from your favorite hardware supplier?

You wouldn't come close to matching the performance for under $1200-$1400.

I think so man i mean i have seem builds on here over 1k for an I5 and a lower graphics card. This is an 800 build for a computer that will run tgc good, well that's what im told haha

I only spent a minute on newegg and found a brand new gaming computer for $800 with 6 Gen I5, 8gb, HDD and SSD and the gtx 1060. It would run tgc perfectly right out of the box.

If the link works it's at:

The link works for me. There are a couple of things to note. It's a slower CPU, much less memory, only a 3gb 1060 video card, has no integrated Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and only a 350 Watt PSU.

It's not a bad deal for a new system and will probably run TGC just fine but I personally would be looking for more performance.

I agree min. 1200 is close. Erik keep your eye on newegg and frys sign up for the promo at frys and check mark the everyday promo email. I think I saw a 1060 go for less then 275 3 weeks ago and they price match if you ever find it cheaper somewhere else. it took me a couple months to build but I was watching for that promo code on some items.
