    Gtx1080

Hi all, bought a new desktop on Cyber Monday.

    4.0 GHz Intel Core i7-6700K Quad-Core 32GB of DDR4 RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080 with 8GB of GDDR5X 480GB SSD + 3TB 7200 rpm HDD.

I've be playing TGC on max settings and can only get 10-15 fps. Does that sound right? If I go half maxed out on the settings I can get 60 fps. Can TGC go past 60 fps or is that a max if your monitor is 60 Hz?

Just wondering if I'm missing something or would that be the approximate limits of my graphics card. My understanding was the 1080 was a beast and should run everything on maximum.

    Thanks in advance

Turn vsync off it will go above 60. Search Fraps and my name as starting a thread, it's covered there.

I don't know why this thread was never made a sticky?

With all the people buying expensive hardware in order to get super-duper image quality in TGC I thought it was time for a thread discussing how to actually

Do you figure the gtx 1080 is underachieving at max settings or does 10-15 fps sound about right? I'll turn vsync off and give it a go when the hooligan kids go to bed.

No 10-15 fps is not right.

10-15 seemed rather disappointing to me as well. I've got some work to be done by the looks of things

You should get 100+ fps with that video card (vsync off). Something is wrong for sure.

I would update drivers from Nvidia.com. Try other games and see if you are getting good performance.

Make sure the fans are spinning on the card. If it is overheating it will throttle down and only give really low performance.

The fan comment struck a chord, it does seem to get worse as I play, maybe overheating. I'll investigate, thanks

Ok checked the fans, they are working. Started at 90 fps, after 10 minutes down to 20. Drivers are up to date. I changed the settings in game and it didn't make any change to fps. I'm stumped

Restarted TGC sitting between 90-130 fps now, strange.

Everything medium low settings 90-100 fps, vsync off, depth of level field off, anti aliasing off, object detail 2, tree count 5200, hq tree distance 354, water quality 2. Far from maxed out, but I guess it's pretty good

You might want to turn Vsync on....IMO it is more enjoyable to watch a steady 60FPS than 60-120. I have a GTX 980ti which is a few steps behind the 1080. And I am far from maxing the settings out. It still looks great at my settings. I lower the tree count more and increase the distance. AA is also on. DOF is off.

Update: It would appear switching from full to windowed mode in game is what is causing the performance issue. If I leave it in full or windowed without switching back and forth it seems fine. Thanks for the help

I believe consensus is to stick to the Windowed Mode. While in theory full screen mode works better in other games, I think TGC windowed mode will give you much less problems.

Also, be sure to check out the link p3eps linked above: http://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/...ality-settings

Its absolutely the best guide on how to get the most out of your video card. You have a beast of a card and nothing will run TGC better than it. Check out that thread and start with some of the recommendations there or keithers recommendations.
