  • Finally started my Sim - Rolling screen

Construction on the above patio "office" is complete and no sooner did I start working on the golf screen.

I had the ceilings made tall - really tall at 11 foot (3.4 meters) and the width I current have is about 4.5 meters.
I had built a corner nook area so that I can have some storage space and be able to roll the screen back so that I can open the door when people are using that entrance/exit

I used a back net from par2pro as well as the raw material. The enclosure (not yet complete) is 1" EMT with support on the walls and wheels for movement. I plan to put some covering on top to catch flop shots and along the side to protect against errant shots.

I have a couple of questions
    1) I tried to place the hitting mesh behind the core spot of the hits on the screen to provide protection. Right now the mesh sits right behind the screen and is fairly taut. Should it be?
The real golf balls come back bouncing a bit, but maybe only a foot.
Should the mesh be very tight / taut?
    How about the screen?

    2) What is the recommendation for covering metal EMT? Pool noodles?

    3) Right now I have the bottom loose based on what I read from others. Is that correct?

Pics attached from Friday. The screen is up but was too excited to take a picture before I had to hit some balls!

What are the iron heads for in your last pic? Coat hanger maybe?

Ha! Yeah. A coat hanger for my "office".

    Today's progress.

Hit a couple of balls but they come back a little further then I'd like. I think it's related to the question #1 above. Any takes?

leave your screen loose on the sides less bounce back its made to strap to the sides if you watch TV or Movies from your projector

Thanks RickyG. I do plan to watch TV/Sports on the screen so I guess I have to pull it a bit tighter than normal. Not sure how much though.

Tryng to figure out how to cover the EMT. I have tried cover it with tape but that isn't working well. I'm thinking I need to may get a hose and splce it open to put around the EMT Anyone have a suggestion?

Don't use pipe insulation as the ball comes back faster than hitting the metal!
I bought top / side trim from Par2Pro. You can hit a ball directly at it, and there is very little bounce back.
There's a close up of it in my build thread here:

Back at the beginning of 2015, I had a go at turning my 2 car garage into a simulator room. One of the main issues I faced was that I had to have it collapsable...

I don't see why you couldn't make something similar. I'm in the UK and had it sent over to me. Par2Pro ship worldwide.

Hi p3eps. COuld you snap another pic for me? What is the material inside? Is it like foam?

I don't think there is any material inside it. It just seems like 2 layers of very thick fluffy Velcro.
I'm on vacation in Dubai at the moment, so won't be able to take a pic for another week.

Mostly done. I've got a few other things I want to do like lower the mesh at the top and cover the piping to prevent kick back.

Here are the details of my setup

        4.5 meters wide x 3.3 meters ( 14 foot x 10.8 foot)
Concrete wall in the back so I build the EMT piping far enough that I can be sure the net won't give enough to allow the ball to hit.
Blackout curtains from amazon with weights on the bottom. My screen is wide enough that it's unlikely anyone would hit that. If someone does, it'll be a youngster and not dangerous as I'll likely use AlmostBalls

I've got mesh that I bought on ebay behind the curtains and it's what I'm using on top. Fastened to the ceiling and directly to the piping.

Just noticed that the topper I hung behind the screen is clearly visbable in these pics. Didn't really notice it when hitting.

Wonder if I should switch to black behind?

Need to do a few more adjustments

              1) Add some more fleece or moving blankets behind the screen. Not much bounce back but I need something dampen the sound
              2) Need to cover the EMT. I hit a very bad shot yesterday and the ball came flying back off the metal. Very dangerous

Let us know what you wind up doing about covering the EMT.

I'm at a loss at the moment. I was going to try and cut a pool noodle but it made it too bulky. Not sure about water pipe tubing around it like a foam. Any ideas?

I've bought som sponge online and going to attempt to make a kind of triangle sponge covered in fabric for the base. Right now I ahve a couple of pillows on the ground but that looks pretty bad.

For the top, i'm still not exactly sure. Wish I would have thought of this before but what happened on saturday night was dangerous.

While I wait for my tarps in the mail I figured I would build a scoreboard/leaderboard.

Palet of wood ripped apart and mounted to a back wood mount. Added a piece of acyllic with some standoff pins. Some liquid chalk markers and looks decent.

Also wanted to show the club holders I had made by a wood worker local to me (I for sure couldn't have made them). Also a pic of the tables I had made. Completed with long stem wine glass holder (my special request design mod) - need to add beer holder

No idea why the pictures are so small. But hopefully it helps someone with some ideas
