  • Curved Simulator Set up - build thread

HI gang, as some may have seen in another thread - I am building a new curved screen set up for my venue at 24-7.golf (new URL). the idea is take up less room (3500mm x 3500mm but the actual hitting area is around 5000mm).

I use a SkyTrak set up with TGC so need to have a good quality projection and I also want to be able to sell the set up like IKEA - flat pack. The other main requirement (commercially speaking) is a way to play right and left handed and for that my team and I have developed a rotating circular hitting mat (1500mm wide).

Here is the first photo of the setup! Early prototype but coming together slowly

How do you pull the screen tight? If you put bungees on to pull the sides, it would try and pull it straight.
As above, my setup is in a small space, and I wouldn't be able to contend with this huge frame.

    Looks good though!

The bay is 10' x 10' triangle basically... so your footprint is 100 square feet or (3.2m x 3.2m, or just over 10m2) - which is a lot smaller than most bays footprint. The screen itself is actually 5 meters wide (by 2.9m high). The screen to back corner is about 1.2m - you need at least 40cm to stop the ball hitting the back wall, so you're saving space there as well.

I am going to have it in two sizes tho... the above and a smaller version which will be 2.7m x 2.7m triangle (with a 3.9m screen size) (also 2.7m height) for those who do not have the room for this one.

Screen mounting will be a bit novel and I'll do a video in about 2 weeks to show it being put up - it'll be quite different

The curved screen I checked out was memory foam with a screen in front of it tight together. It kept the shape well, no wrinkles at all. Almost seemed like the screen, all be it bad quality screen was molded / adhered onto the memory foam. The memory foam left a huge picture distortion (dent) after your shot. Was kind of nice to see where you hit the screen I suppose, but not great for the realism of the experience. Hd golf set up if I remember.

Hope this helps, I might be in the market for a set up. 16' x 9' screen.

Added the attachment I found online of the setup. If I remember correctly it was rolled angle iron or tube that formed the curve and sandwiched the screen between that and possibly wood 2x4/foam . Might have been flat bar and angle. There were also bungy cords going here, there, and everywhere adjusting the tension.

Yeah I've found memory foam doesnt work although good to stick to a wall if your screen is <1' to the wall. I have my own screen (as in I have a factory that makes them) which is double ply nylon mesh that is super quiet and super strong (lasts years!) - when you pull it super tight looks good and doesn't distort and also doesn't have balls flying back at you!

Hi all, OK ... after a few technical issues... first run of the curved screen in my shop has been completed successfully! Still need to calibrate the image... but overall results looks great, feels great, great for bounce back.

              Here is the video:

Looks nice. How far are you standing from the screen. Looks to be pretty close.

The ball is 2200mm from the screen centre. previous set was 2500mm ... not a huge difference but looks really close (that's the point... immersive
