  • Carl's Preferred vs. West Coast Netting PR-20

I am trying to decide which impact screen to go with for my home simulator. The screen size I need is 8.5' H x 9' W. My budget is around $600. I'm currently debating between the Carl's Preferred and the West Coast Netting PR-20. I don't get a whole lot of time to play so on average it will be around 9 holes per week. If you have or have had either one of these screens, please post your pro's and con's.

Also, after reading several posts, it seems most people recommend a net behind the screen? I spoke with a representative from Carl's Place and was told there is no need for a net behind the Preferred screen. Any thoughts?

Or, if you recommend a completely different screen that fits into my $600 budget, feel free to chime in.

I have the West Coast netting PR20 Have had no issues. I only have the impact screen and no net behind. Works great. I use with Skytrak TGC and BenQ projector

I always try to mention this company, I have their 10x10 ultra duty delta impact panel which has been amazing , they also have an impact screen that is very affordable. In addition they were willing to make alterations for size , add grommets , etc.

      10x10 Impact screen for $299 ; http://www.sportnetting.com/nets/sim...-cage-net.html

Haven't looked at this option yet. Is there any youtube videos of this particular screen in action?

I really like the PR-20 an west coast is a solid company to work with. They made a small size error in my original purchase and just sent me a new screen, told me to keep the other one as well.

I hung blacked industrial blankets with grommets behind it to prevent any possible bled through and ball drops straight down.

I've owned both and both have their own pro's and cons.

The PR-20 I found to be durable and easy to work with, but my biggest complaint is how big a dimple in the screen every shot left. They eventually smooth out, but while playing/hitting the screen is anything but smooth. The image quality is nothing at all to write home about, probably at the bottom in that category.

The Carl's preferred has a drastically better image quality and less pucker from each shot, but it's not as easy to work with IMO. It seems very sensitive when it comes to tension'ing the sides to remove waves/wrinkles. It took me several hours to get just right and I do find myself adjusting it from time to time. I never had to do this with the PR-20. It also takes some playing with to get the tension just right for minimal bounce back. PR-20 excels in this area. Very little bounce back, but that is also why each shot leaves such a dimple in the screen.

I put a net behind both of mine simply because I already had it and I have very expensive windows right behind my screen.
