Sportscreen tear

Installed my sportscreen 3 weeks ago with a supertex screen in front. I was working on my 3 wood and suddenly one of my shots just went right on through. The supertex screen was fine but the sportscreen has a 6 in tear right along the bottom bar region where they hem the screen. Still perplexed how that happened since the supertex covers that area and the bar below it didn't get whacked.

Emailed customer service this afternoon. Hopefully they will be able to send a replacement screen quickly and I just had a fluke screen.

Definitely not a fluke screen. I'm noticing significant wear on my sports screen also. I cant believe that this made to stop a hockey puck but can't handle a golf ball? I'm really thinking about getting some heavy duty archery netting and installing it on the roller instead of the sports screen. Keep us posted on what customer service has to say!

I've had mine a few days shy of a month. I almost have a hole in the center of my sports screen from a good solid driver strike and I don't hit very hard. I also have a start of a tear like yours from a low hit but it's at the seam and isn't complete threw like yours is. I put a 6in spacer in between the impact screen and the sports screen at the bottom and this has helped on wear a bit. Kinda sad for the kind of money that it won't last long but really don't think this product was ever intended to be used for golf. On the plus side the roller should last forever!

Sucks on the tear in the screen after only three weeks. Will be very interested in their customer service and how they respond. Their sales folks told me lots of people were using their product for golf with no issues before I bought it.
Guessing you might unfortunately have a defective sportscreen. We have hit some low screaming drives into the bottom part of the screen just above the bar and have not seen any wear or tears as yet
do you keep your screen tight - metal bar on or above the ground - or loose - metal bar on the ground with some give on the sportscreen?

I have it loose. I use some pipe insulation for the bottom bar to prevent ricochets to my noggin. Supertex screen in front of the sportscreen with some ties in the lower corners but very loose. I am on the list for the screen by DB golf. When that screen arrives I might have to wrap that around the lower bar and attach it on the other side somehow

So your having problems with your sports screen as well? Is that gorilla tape?

Just good old fashioned duct tape. That is where the hole is located.

That is how my setup is - impact screen little longer than sportscreen so impact screen is right on the ground loosely wrapped around the bar. Just hangs loose now but was also going to try magnets on the back of the bar to hold the impact screen a onto the sportscreen a little tighter

I'm putting in my order for the sports screen today and i'm wondering what else I need to look out for. Through your trials did you determine it was best to have the two screens closer together or further apart? Are you able to add a third screen to the setup to also help w/ noise? For example the sports screen, a moving blanket / etc., then the supertex ?

You can attach several things to the roller at once. It's all just velcro'd to the roller. So it would be easy to attach 3 or so things to it. I'm having good luck with a little gap between the 2 screens. I'm still very happy with my sports screen even tho I have seen some wear to the screen. I really curious as to what the OP finds out with warranty and customer service?

Sportscreen did a great job handling my issue. Sounds like they will ship me a replacement screen soon. Great customer service on their part.

Thank you for getting in touch with us. It is hard to tell what happened from the picture, and this is not an issue we have seen in the past, so it is possible that it stemmed from issues we were having with the move. I will have a replacement sent out to you in the next day or two.

It would help if you could tell me a bit more of what happened. If it was one event or if you just noticed it one day. It would also help if you could tell me how it was being used (ie. Baseball or hockey, how often, what type of balls or pucks…)

So is it only geared towards baseball and hockey as that's the only thing they mention? Those have a larger surface area for impact and don't travel as fast (highest recorded speed is 124 bb, 110 hockey).

Possibly, but they do also tout golf as an application for the sportscreen. I think I am going to wrap my supertex around the bottom of the bar and when the dbgolf mill screen order gets completed add a third layer. Adding additional weight might begin to overload the motor for the sportscreen, but the tubular motor is pretty heavy duty.

Also the sportscreen comes in 16 feet length and my model is 10 feet. Guessing the motor is the same for both so it's probably rated to handle the additional weight.

Great news on the customer service.
I asked about adding additional items to the roller bar when I purchased my sportscreen and they said adding an impact screen would be no problem for the motor but they advised against adding anything else - they said the motor was only "rated" for the weight an extended sportscreen. My screen is 17' 6" wide, so it is a larger screen ( more weight) as well which may be the reason they told me that. Maybe a third item on a smaller width sportscreen would be ok or maybe ok if manual and not motorized?
Others have mentioned on this forum they have three items attached to the roller without issues as well
