  • New Build on the cheap- with pics and questions

While I know for some of you this is low end, but as I'm building this for my 17YO son, I'm not ready to make a large (or expensive) commitment just yet. Here is my build so far, and some questions:
    SIM
    Optishot 2 (Ebay for $200)

    ENCLOSURE
    EMT conduit (Lowes $65)
    Corner fittings (Ebay $60)
    Surround fabric (Joann Fabrics $40)

    SCREEN
10'x10' Supertex Impact (Spectrum Golf $170)
PVC and insulation for screen (Lowes $20)
Netting for behind screen (Free from Club Pro friend)

    PC - Existing laptop Windows 10 ($0)

MAT - Eco Mat 6'x8' (Home Depot $20)
    - 12'x12' Area carpet in front of hitting area/screen (TBB Home Depot $70)

    PROJECTOR - ???????????????

The projector is by far the most difficult decision for me. I've bounced around from the cheap Chinese models that are sooo tempting on Ebay to a used name brand model. I'm still up in the air about placement. I see pros/cons for each (short/long, floor/ceiling) and I guess it will ultimately depend on shadows. My preferred locations is right overhead to slightly behind the hitting area, but finding a projector in my price range with a nearly 1:1 throw ratio is proving difficult. My next step is to "test" a project we have at work to see if I can mount it where I want and not cast shadows. The only limiting factor (other than budget) is my ceiling height set firm at just over 9".
My overall dimensions are 10' wide, about 9' high, 5' deep, with a hitting area 10' from the screen.
Left on my TO Do list:
    1. Buy the darm projector
    2. Install the carpet around the screen
    3. Finalize the electrical including some lighting.
Not interested in creating a mood or relaxation area just yet, its an unfinished basement. Any suggestions or ideas, especially on the projector please feel free to advise. Thanks.

Forgot to add what I think are the perfect specs for my build (I know there are much better projectors but considering the SIM and the intent):
    VGA or XVGA resoltion
    4x3 aspect ratio
    3000-4000 lumens (only limited sunlight)
    LCD,but would consider DLP
Throw ratio of 0.8 to 1.2 (I think)
All that should get me a 10 year old projector from Ebay for about $200 - or so Ihope

I am just completing a move from optishot to Skytrak. I have an optishot (new 2 yrs ago) and an epson projector (bought used, have travel case, remote and manual, 15 ft vga cable) for sale. I am out of town so i cant quote model but i had used it in 4:3 and projected about 12 feet. Let me know if you want to pursue.

Yes, sure interested. I would need to know the model and the lamp hours if you have access to them. Thanks.

It is a Sharp XG-C465X-L. Not a short throw as I was projecting about 14ft.
    Working...
